Meredith or Edith?

Which do you prefer out of Meredith and Edith? I think I'm more swaying towards Edith but the more I see Meredith, the more I like it, and I suppose it has more nickname/shortenings options!

I think Meredith is beautiful. I do like Edith but Meredith seems to suit young and old x

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 21/09/2022 17:36

Edith.

Meredith is beautiful, but it’s a boy’s name to me.

SquigglePigs · 21/09/2022 17:40

I love Meredith! Sadly my DH vetoed it for our DD.

I still see Edith as a very old name (two in my family who would be late 90's if they were still with us) but I have heard a couple of younger people with it so it is getting a bit of a revival. And it's kinda sweet.

Having said that I prefer Edie as a nickname to Mer/Mere...

I'd still choose Meredith out of the two though.

Prefer Edith. For some reason I’m just not very keen on Meredith. Like Edie or Eddie nn

FayeSW · 23/09/2022 20:34

I have Meredith nn Meri. She's in her teens now and still love it. I do love Edith too though.

SuzySangfroid · 23/09/2022 20:36

I really like Edith and Martha. I am not fond of Meredith

PlumsInTheIcebox · 24/09/2022 09:28

Edith and Martha are both beautiful. I am biased as I have an awesome Martha. I can lend you my MN Martha Bingo card for the people who will shortly arrive to tell you that it’s dumpy / puddingy / drudgey / the name of a Victorian servant Grin

Grin I do absolutely adore Martha. The only reason it's not top top spot on the list is because DH's sister is called Martha and I'm not sure if that will be weird/complicated. I think we've decided we will 'know' if it feels weird or right once baby is here

Meredith is gorgeous.
To me Edina is sweeter/less gutteral than Edith

loveislouderthanwar · 25/09/2022 17:29

I have a Meredith. She's now 18 at uni and she most definitely it's cutesy.

She's a strong, confident woman who takes no rubbish.

She often uses nicknames and has always used Merry as her preferred name.

So obviously you know where my vote goes.

loveislouderthanwar · 25/09/2022 17:30

isn't

Have you thought of Eadie? Currently have one in my class and I'm loving it 😍

I really wanted to spell Edie, Eadie but my OH vetoed it. I like it for being a bit different and so you don't get the Eddie thing

Sorry I spat my tea out at the bingo card 😂 I like the name Martha

Beachs · 25/09/2022 21:22

Edith but I'm biased as I have a beautiful little Edith.

I'll be honest it wouldnt have even been in my top 10 but DH was adamant he wanted Edith nn Edie. It grew on me. Everyone comments on how pretty her name is apart from both her grandads who both hate it and call her by her middle name Grace 😂

AnneShirleysNewDress · 25/09/2022 21:24

I love them both but would go for Merideth.

FayCarew · 26/09/2022 08:23

Merideth! Grin Merry Death?

HairOclock · 26/09/2022 12:20

I was hoping Merideth was a typo Grin

I worked with a lady called Mareth, pronounced like Maris Piper potatoes but with a 'th' at the end instead of the 's'. I've always thought that was a lovely name and memorable without being wacky. It was a combination of her grannies or aunties names that her mum liked.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 26/09/2022 15:06

I actually prefer Martha to Edith or Meredith. I don't like names ending in TH.

If I had to pick one, I'd probably go for Edith and just call her Edie.

Edith is quite popular, I know two little Edith's in DSs nursery.

Merideth is a much more memorable name and I love merry as a nickname.

DuchessOfSausage · 28/09/2022 13:53

@Gamergirl84 , Merideth is certainly memorable.

eleanorsmellstrop · 28/09/2022 14:47

Martha and Edith are both lovely. Meredith is a pretty sound but has some problems which others have pointed out already.

HairOclock · 28/09/2022 14:59

I think the shortening Merry has put me off Meredith to be honest, I just don't love it and it seems it would be inevitable. Definitely going to go with either Martha or Edith now but will be a tricky decision which one I think!

Meredith.

Enid, Judith and Ellen I prefer over Edith
