French DH wants a name I really do like - Pascale - for our daughter but not sure how it will go down here. Think Britain's playgrounds are ready?

Pascale is nice. I love french girls names:
Delphine
Celeste
Axelle

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/01/2008 11:11

I knew a Severine too

GetOrfMoiLand · 25/01/2008 11:11

Pascale is a lovely name.

My French penfriend in the early 90s was called...Mary.

I was very disappointed, I wanted someone called something like Suzette or Veronique.

WanderingTrolley · 25/01/2008 11:14

Lovely name.

Nice to have a name reflecting heritage imo.

hifi · 25/01/2008 11:22

a lovely name for once

belgo · 25/01/2008 11:33

at Mary...not even Marie?

DebK2012 · 20/12/2012 19:30

I know I'm really late to this thread just really wanted to say that you would offend many french people as Pascale is only meant to be given to a baby born on the Easter weekend!!!!!!

Shelium · 20/12/2012 19:33

isn't it the name of the lizard in tangled?

AgathaTrunchbull · 20/12/2012 21:59

The playground is ready for just about anything. I teach a Pascale.

bigbluebump · 20/12/2012 22:10

Lovely name! Makes a refreshing change from all the little Rubies, Ellies, Evies out there and is a lovely tribute to your heritage! I know a lovely Pascale who is now in her fourties - great name!

Alisvolatpropiis · 20/12/2012 23:37

I like it.

I knew a male Pascal and as far as I know he never had any trouble with his name.

Gugglebum · 21/12/2012 04:35

Absolutely love it. One of my favourite French names.

emmyloo2 · 21/12/2012 07:13

It's lovely. I remember when I went to France on exchange at school I stayed with a family and the daughter was Pascale. It seemed so exotic!

Bonsoir · 21/12/2012 07:16

Look here to see just how dated and unfashionable a first name Pascale is in France. Please don't do this to your daughter. Would you call her Karen, Sharon or Tracey?

MadSleighLady · 21/12/2012 13:12

Pascale is lovely.

That site is also telling me that the top 40 in France in 2010 included Sarah, Louise and Lisa, all of which sound very 70s to me.

I'd only hesitate if I was planning to relocate to France with DC in the foreseeable future. You don't know where your kids are going to end up living, or what their names will signify there.

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 21/12/2012 17:06

I love it but unfortunately think a lot of people will pronounce it as Pascal.

sparkle12mar08 · 21/12/2012 17:10

Seeing as the thread is nearly FIVE YEARS OLD I doubt the OP particularly cares anymore...

MadSleighLady · 21/12/2012 17:13

Oh nooo!

I wonder what they decided?

LynetteScavo · 21/12/2012 17:16

DebK2012 yes, a bit late by a few years, and how do you know the baby wasn't born at Easter?

You win the prize for the most pointless post ever.

And offend French people, like her DH? Hmm

mayanna234 · 21/12/2012 18:59

Pascale is a lovely, feminine name. And rarely used (in the UK) so a great choice!

I have a french friend called Pascale and her birthday is in September... is that not allowed then Confused?

cuillereasoupe · 21/12/2012 19:51

I've never heard that before and am very sceptical. It is a pretty name, but very very unfashionable for babies here (makes me think of someone in their mid-to-late forties).

AuntieStella · 21/12/2012 19:54

It's not that it's not allowed, it's just that it's as weird as having a Noelle born in June.

solveproblem · 21/12/2012 20:01

Sounds like your child would be put under a lot of pressure with that name.... Grin

I don't speak French so would pronounce it pascal and the only thing I associate that with is pressure.

cuillereasoupe · 21/12/2012 20:25

Is it weird? I have met plenty of people called Pascal(e) but I have no idea when any of them were born.

miffybun73 · 21/12/2012 20:28

Yes, beautiful name.
