Susannah “Suki” or “Zuzu” - Love Susannah with nn Suki, such a happy name.

Eve “Evie” - Done to death.

Felicity “Flick” - Like Felicity but prefer nicknames Flo, Fliss or Cici. Don't like Flick at all.

Flora - Love. Has a really sweet, retro but also fresh feel.

June - very pretty and still rare as a first name.

May - No, done to death

Louisa - Pretty.

Marianne - Pretty.

Heidi - A bit trendy and cutesy and dull

Caroline - Pretty and underused. Love nickname Carrie

Juliet “Jules” - Like Juliet, dislike Jules

Violet - Pretty but bit overdone now

Lily - Done to death

Elizabeth “Eliza” - pretty, but very popular

Marielle (prn. “Mary-Elle”) - This isn't how most people pronounce this - it's usually said "Mari-Elle". I think both are too frilly but especially dislike "Mary-Elle"

Tessa “Tess” - love this! So sweet and fresh

Zara - a little bland but also so pretty it almost doesn't matter

Rose - a little bland but also so pretty it almost doesn't matter

Margot/Margaux - used to love, but it's got so popular so quickly. I'm afraid it will date badly

Nadia - don't like

Natalie - It's pretty but a bit dated

Sylvie - Pretty but trendy, but prefer Sylvia

Diana - Dated and too linked to the princess. Would assume you were a superfan

Dahlia (prn. “Doll-ee-yah”) - This isn't how it's pronounced, and nobody will say it like this. So a hard no.

Charlotte - pretty but a little dull

Boys:

Miles - nice

Christopher “Kit” - nice

Robin - nice

James “Jamie” - James is nice but prefer Jim/Jimmy as a nickname. Jamie is boring

Griffin - Dislike. Reminds me of ugly things and/or monsters.

From the girl's list, I like and would shortlist:
Susannah, Flora, Zara, Rose, Juliet, Tessa, Caroline, and Marianne

I'd keep as middle name options:
June, Elizabeth/Eliza, Sylvie, Louisa

I'd lose the others.

I like and would use all the boy names except Griffin which I think is really ugly. I also hate Jamie but like James. My favourite names from the boy's list are Miles and Christopher.

ElizaSkye · 13/09/2022 19:18

Flora , Margot, Heidi

SnowdropFox · 13/09/2022 19:24

Violet, Sylvie and Heidi. I like some of the others too, just not your choice of pronunciation

Robin and Miles. Not fussed about the others.

User6761 · 13/09/2022 19:27

Of the girls names, like Eve, Rose and Flora the best. Marianne, Natalie and Tessa also nice.

Like Jamie a lot. Robin and Griffin also nice.

DramaAlpaca · 13/09/2022 19:30

Top 3 - Louisa, Marianne and Caroline

Bottom 3 (I know you didn't ask, but too many to rate) - Heidi, Margot and Dahlia. How on earth is Dahlia pronounced like that?

Boys - like Miles, Christopher and James. Hate Griffin and Robin is wet.

Hastingsontheup · 13/09/2022 19:32

I do love Eliza, also nice for HRH maybe, but may be middle name ? Caroline is lovely, I have a Charlotte but she is 15 it's terribly popular now. Marianne is another contender. Not keen on the flowers/ months of the year.

Of the boys Christopher (kit) by a country mile.

Titsflyingsouth · 13/09/2022 19:35

Top choices:
Girls - Natalie, Heidi, Violet
Boys - Kit and Miles

(And I loathe Flora...)

cptartapp · 13/09/2022 19:43

Louisa, Zara, Natalie.
Christopher and James in their entirety.

maranella · 13/09/2022 19:50

Natalie, Juliet, Heidi
Christopher, James

I don't like any of the nicknames!

Beautifulsunflowers · 13/09/2022 19:56

From your girls list my top 3 would be
Caroline
Heidi
Natalie

your boys list is too tiny to choose top 3 so I’d say James is my favourite.

Mymoneydontjigglejiggle · 13/09/2022 20:08

Favourites: Flora and Robin
Runners up: Elizabeth and Sylvie
Christopher and Miles

caitlinrose · 13/09/2022 20:17

Nice names overall!

  1. Lily
  2. Violet
  3. May
  1. James (but without a nickname)
  2. Griffin
  3. Miles

I like most names but not so much the nicknames.

Susannah is nice without nicknames, Felicity too. Flick is really not to my taste. Juliet is pretty but Jules sort of bland. Eliza is better on its own.

I say dah-lee-ah for Dahlia.

KylieCharlene · 13/09/2022 20:28

Heidi- beautiful, suits all ages and it's a classic.
Nadia- cosmopolitan, sassy and suits all ages.
Eve (without the Evie nickname)- simple and graceful. Needs nothing adding.

Miles - lovely and a bit different -a refreshing change.
Not a fan of any of your other boys' names.

Glitterspy · 13/09/2022 20:29

Love Kit and Miles. James/Jamie is ok but prefer William/Wilf/Billy.

Do you like Willa for a girl?

Susannah “Suki” or “Zuzu” - both nicknames urgh. Susie would be cute and retro these days.

Eve “Evie” - boring, overdone

Felicity “Flick” - very jolly hockeysticks and makes me think of a redhead with thunderthighs

Flora - margarine

June - permatanned wrinkly old lady. Unless actually born in June. In which case, cute.

May - boring unless (see June)

Louisa - horsey, hard woman to hounds, no nonsense but not pretty

Marianne - Dashwood, always. Wibble.

Heidi - just no. Lonely goatherd.

Caroline - I went through a hormonal pregnancy phase of loving this name as the feminisation of Charles. Might be due a revival. NN “Caz” tho?

Juliet “Jules” - yes very posh. Stress on the Ju to be really poshest - not the et. Its JOO-liet, not Julie-ET

Violet - love it even if association of lavender smelling old ladies. Can’t help seeing “violent” when written down tho.

Lily - boring, wet

Elizabeth “Eliza” - nice, posh enough, boring tho

Marielle (prn. “Mary-Elle”) - are you American? No one English would pronounce it that way, it’d be Marry-Elle. Don’t give your child any name they would constantly have to correct others on how to spell or say.

Tessa “Tess” - it’s ok, I think it’s a bit of a Beverly or Elaine (retro but not cool)

Zara - gorge, apart from the shop associations

Rose - lovely

Nadia - edgy and cool, lovely

Natalie - bit 80s. I love Nat for either gender tho.

Sylvie - see Tess

Diana - see Tess (another one I hormonally liked)

Dahlia (prn. “Doll-ee-yah”) - English pronunciation more likely to be “Dah-Lee-ya” or even “day-Lee-ya”

Charlotte - it’s ok. It’s not my fav. Do you like the nn Charlie?

MolkosTeenageAngst · 13/09/2022 20:32

Girls: Susannah, Flora, Eliza, Natalie

Boys: Kit or Griffin

Luredbyapomegranate · 13/09/2022 20:50

1 Marianne
2 Diana
3 Caroline

Susannah - lovely but don’t like the nns
Eve “Evie” - done to death
Felicity “Flick” - nice but not Flick
Flora - nice
June - nice
May - done to death
Louisa - ok
Heidi - no, it’s half stripper half twee
Juliet “Jules” - ok but not Jules
Violet - ok, probably over popular
Lily - done to death and so wet
Elizabeth “Eliza” - lovely but overused
Marielle (prn. “Mary-Elle”) - it’s pronounced Marry-elle, same as Marion and Marianne. No one will say it Mary - Elle, which is anyway awkward to say. So no.
Tessa “Tess” - nice
Zara - Ok
Rose - done to death
Margot/Margaux - Margot is nice but very popular. Margaux spelling is ridiculous
Nadia - ok, bit 70s / 80s
Natalie - same
Sylvie - ok, suddenly very popular though
Dahlia (prn. “Doll-ee-yah”) - this is not how it’s pronounced. People won’t say it like that. And it isn’t nice.
Charlotte - done to death

Boys:

1 Miles - underused
2 James - overused
3 Christopher “Kit” - suddenly popular

Robin - it’s ok short for Robert but I think it works better for girls

Mummytobe333 · 13/09/2022 21:15

I love the name Dahlia (although pronounced Dah-lee-ah or Day-lee-ah)

Griffin- I really like this and the meaning!

danascully96 · 13/09/2022 23:08

“Doll-Lee-ya” = “Dah-Lee-ya” in my accent. Sorry for the confusion. Although some people I know say “DAL-Lee-ya” with “DAL” sounding like the beginning of Albert, so maybe Dahlia has too many pronunciations.

@Glitterspy lol yes I’m American (it’s amazing you can tell!) and words like Mary are Merry are identical in my Midwestern accent. I wish I could differentiate between the two in my accent!
