Can you give me your honest opinions on the name Zaria? (Pronounced zahr-ee-uh)

It's a name of Slavic origin meaning princess.

Nice but I can think of three ways to say it which would be a problem for me.

Aquamarine1029 · 11/09/2022 16:15

I think it's lovely.

Should be good. Z is an unusual letter. The connotation of Zara Tindle makes your variation of that name sound aristocratic, as well as conventional. If you say it quickly, it's like Sylvia, two syllables with a bit of a twist to the sound.

It sounds a bit like Dahlia and Talia, which are also great names.

It is lovely and I can't see any other way it could be pronounced.

I love it! I like Z names anyway and this one’s lovely.

That's what I thought but loads of people have asked me how to pronounce it! Some people pronounce it as "za-ry-ah" and some pronounce it "za-ree-a"

It's nice 👍

Lovely but I like Slavic names. I would even consider name like Xenya as to me it is the saint, not the warrior.

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/09/2022 17:42

It’s nice.

I can’t see how else you’d say it, and it sounds like a longer version of Zara, so I can’t see anyone else would say it differently either

Diverseopinions · 11/09/2022 18:59

Xenya is great, partly because it reminds one of Enya, who is beautiful and talented.

Zaria to rhyme with barrier
Zaria similar to snarlier
Zaria to rhyme with Maria

I love it, I would definitely assume it was pronounced the way you put.

ChillysWaterBottle · 15/09/2022 21:21

Lovely name

Greenlee · 15/09/2022 23:47

I love Zaria and Xenia, both lovely and not going to be shared by ten other kids at nursery.

Notcreativeatall · 15/09/2022 23:49

Does it shorten to Zasha? just thinking how other slavic names shorten- eg Maria to Masha, Daria to Dasha - although i don't know if that happens so much in a non-slavic country?

Weefreetiffany · 15/09/2022 23:59

I thought you were going to say marzanna!

it’s the female version of the word tsar (not tsarina, that’s a title) which is the Russian version of cesar. So how do you feel about Russia at the moment?
