...Hannah?

Am I right in thinking it's gone down popularity or is it still very popular?

DD is in Y1. 3/4 of her close friends have a mum called Hannah. It's common for 35-45 year olds.

satur · 10/09/2022 17:09

Classic name,
Love it.

TraceyGerbil · 10/09/2022 17:09

Dull and overused.

MassiveSalad22 · 10/09/2022 17:10

Love it! My 5mo daughter has an 80s name though so maybe that’s my vibe. I also love Claire and Alison 😍 feel like they’re American kid names and British Mum names.

MassiveSalad22 · 10/09/2022 17:13

Also recently met a baby Holly and know a preschool Amy. Know a junior age Hannah-[hyphenated name] but Hannah isn’t all the rage at the mo. I like that it’s consonant heavy, DS’s new reception class is basically all vowels including his own name.
Isla, Evie, Evan, Euan, Ava, Ethan, Theo, Leon etc. Hannah is refreshing!

KangarooKenny · 10/09/2022 17:14

I think it’s lovely.

carefullycourageous · 10/09/2022 17:15

It is a great classic name, I really like it.

I also really love that it is a palindrome, always loved that.

SatInTheCorner · 10/09/2022 17:17

I like it and Anna

toastofthetown · 10/09/2022 18:48

I can’t think of a more bland, snooze of a name than Hannah. It’s one of those names I really think that of all the names in the world, I don’t know why you’d choose Hannah.

BestCatMumEver · 10/09/2022 19:29

It’s not overused where I live, I don’t know any children named Hannah. Only grown ups!

Where I am all girls are called Lily/Amelia/Evie/Isla/Ava/Evelyn.

FairytaleofNewHampshire · 10/09/2022 19:34

I don't really like it, it's very bland.
However I strangely like Anna, as it seems timeless to me.

Twizbe · 10/09/2022 19:36

I like it.

I know adult ones and child ones. Timeless name.

Dull and overused.

It is not overused

It’s popular for women in their 40s-ish - it’s hardly used at all for this generation.

It’s classic so it doesn’t sound dated, and it’s a nice alternative to the popular Anna / Annabel.

ofwarren · 11/09/2022 12:48

I think it's a lovely name

SalviaOfficinalis · 11/09/2022 12:49

I really like it. I like Anna as well, put prefer Hannah.

Surely you're thinking of Emily?

Hannah is still in the top hundred, which is too overused for me to use regardless of any previous popularity (which does also add to the overused label, as I was surrounded by Hannahs at school). It might not sound dated to you, but it does to me. The fact that it was so popular in the 80s and 90s and has fallen in popularity is exactly why it sounds dated.

wishing3 · 11/09/2022 15:40

Nice-unusual for the new generation. I like it.

Spanielsarepainless · 11/09/2022 15:41

Classic.

ApolloandDaphne · 11/09/2022 15:43

I had a Hannah who died when she was 5. I love it.

You’re mistaken, it is in fact Amelia.

I came here to write exactly this! Hannah is such a boring name (despite being a palindrome which is cool!) but Anna is so timeless & pretty to me.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 02/12/2022 23:17

Hannah is a nice, pretty, if slightly "blah" name for some reason to me. But it's definitely not too popular imo - but then I see nothing wrong with using a top 50/100 name, since decreasing usage of popular names means there still aren't likely to be that many of any one name in school anymore (the only exception to this for me would be something that's risen from low usage to top 5/10 type popularity- those sort of names have a good chance of sounding dated in future, but that doesn't apply to Hannah).

Like others I can't help but prefer Anna though - for such a simple name it has the elegant sounding, slightly exotic edge Hannah somehow lacks a bit (possibly due to Anna's popularity abroad, Anna Karenina etc).
