Hello I like unusual names but not too out there. I have a list of boys names that I like for different reasons but just wanted to hear what others thought of the names:

Herbie
Dakota
Roscoe
Baxter
Morgan
Otto

Think we are leaning more towards Roscoe or Otto but any thoughts or other suggestions would be appreciated!

Otto would be my choice.
dakota sounds more like a girls name. I know Morgan is unisex but I think of it more as a girls name too, but maybe just as i know quite a few female Morgan’s. I know a dog called Roscoe. I don’t like Herbie.
Otto is cute!

I feel really mean saying it but the first thing I thought when I saw the lost was you were naming a dog.

I don't like any sorry 😂

Depending on the sort of school he goes to he could be bullied with a name like those

Yes!!

The majority of these would make great dog names, embarrassing at best for a child and awful for an eventual adult

I see what a PP means about some of the names seeming like dog names. Herbie is cute as a nickname for something (I don't know what). It wouldn't work as a full name, and I do get dog vibes from it. Roscoe and Baxter are also very... doggy. Would suit a puppy more than a baby. Dakota is a girl's name. Morgan is very dated and a bit naff.

Otto is lovely!

How about:
Jago
Rafe
Cassian
Lucian
Raphael
Gabriel
Ari

You could say that for quite literally any name. If someone is going to be a bully, they will find a reason to bully. Judging by the names that are trendy at the moment, none of these names is likely to induce bullying, they'll not stand out at all. They're not awful names, there's nothing funny about any of them. I think you're being quite spiteful.

Otto

Awful

Sorry but they are not nice names. I know some dogs and horses called that.

What's wrong with normal traditional names .?

John
Jack
William
Tom
Harry

Etc Confused

I’d choose Otto or Roscoe.

Milo, Jago and Arlo are also nice.

Talipesmum · 31/08/2022 10:53

I like them all, but probably wouldn’t use Herbie as it’s too “nickname-y” unless I was going to use Herbert and have it as a nickname. And I think Dakota is much more associated as a girl’s name so may be annoying for him.
I know a Baxter and a Morgan (I only know one of each) and both are great names. Bax is an excellent shortening too. Otto is great, as is roscoe.

RaRaRaspoutine · 31/08/2022 11:15

I like Roscoe and Otto. Morgan and Dakota I would use as a girl's name. Herbie is cute but it makes me think of the character in Gypsy - depends if this is a good thing or not :)

Boring and overused!

Oh dear. Morgan maybe or Otto possibly. Oliver or Oscar are much nicer though. Dakota seems to be thought of as a girl's name, there are at least a couple of actresses called this, never heard of a male one, though I suppose, as the name of an American state, it could be.

Herbie sounds a bit silly, there is a series of films about a car called this.
Roscoe, there used to be a famous DJ known as the Emperor Roscoe, think he started on pirate radio.

Are there really not any names you like that are, excuse me for saying it, more normal?
