What are your thoughts on Leonora for a girl, shortened to Leo maybe?

I quite like frillier girls names shortened to masculine names, e.g. love Max though not so sure Maxine is ready for a comeback yet.

I also like the shortening Nora, but prefer Leo or possibly Leah

I think it's beautiful. It reminds me of the painter Leonora Carrington.

I don't see where the "Lenor" connotation is coming from? It's Leonora with four syllables, not Lenora.

I generally loathe frilly multi-syllabic girls names, but Leonora is actually OK Although I dislike Nora as a nickname. (To me it has a very ugly sound.)

Either washing powder or the mum from taken

Sunbird24 · 21/08/2022 12:09

I like Leonora, would go for Lennie as a nn

CPL593H · 21/08/2022 12:15

Leonore also a possible (Fidelio)

Whataretheodds · 21/08/2022 12:30

Not a fan of Leonora but love Leo as a nickname, Leonie or Leona would work for me.

pinklavenders · 21/08/2022 15:17

Leo is an adorable nickname!

RuthW · 21/08/2022 15:29

It's lovely.

miltonj · 21/08/2022 15:35

It is nice but I do think it sounds too similar to lenor.

I think Maxine is a brilliant name and kept pushing for it for dd2, I say go for it! Or leonie which is also strong and beautiful.

perimenofertility · 21/08/2022 15:49

I love it, great choice, it sounds really pretty!
I would shorten to Leo or Lea.

Spanielsarepainless · 21/08/2022 15:58

I like it. And I like Maxine.

Bananalanacake · 21/08/2022 16:37

When I was a kid my mum would take me to see her friend who had DC calked Lee and Laura. I would play with Laura but never saw Lee, I said nothing though. Years later we met the mum who said "Leonora is over there' only then did I realise it was one name.

factfile · 21/08/2022 23:39

It's lovely

goshy · 21/08/2022 23:45

Poor thing prob get Lenor or jokes about Ariel/ Bold /Daz..
Eleanor?

Eleanor sounds much more like Lenor than Leonora does surely?

honeyfox · 21/08/2022 23:48

I think Leona is fab ☺️

mathanxiety · 22/08/2022 05:41

Leonora is absolutely beautiful. It's nothing like Lenor.

I know one whose NN is Lee.

Pemba · 22/08/2022 15:10

If it wasn't for the bloody fabric conditioner, people would be thinking Lenore was a beautiful name too. Didn't it feature in a famous poem by Edgar Allen Poe? The one about the raven?

'The rare and radiant maiden, who(m) the angels named Lenore'.

Or something like that. Forget about the product and it's actually nicer than Leonora.

I really wish companies wouldn't do that, take a name (and it's always a girl's name) and use it to name their product, or a car. Thus rendering the name unusable, for at least a couple of decades.
