So here are mine and DP’s top 3 lists.

Mine are (in order of preference) Indie, Eden and Piper.

His are (in order) Quinn, Norah and Nola

My name is Laura so I’m not sure how I feel about Norah.

DS loves River, which I like but babies surname is a type of weed so I think it makes it sound silly.

Thoughts?

Kirsten, to me Laura, Maura, Dora, Cora,

PrimroseWharf · 18/08/2022 20:29

Norah and Laura could be quite sweet. Surely you will be Mummy most of the time anyway. I’m not keen on any of your other names although I like India nn Indie. Other suggestions:

Zara
Clara
Tess
Erin
Cora
Phoebe
Wren
Nina
Hazel
Ada
Thea
Willa

Dunno what happened there! Anyway they all rhyme, they all have the same 'or' sound in the middle. It's different accents I would guess. Are you Scottish?

perimenofertility · 18/08/2022 20:31

Eden and Nola are my top choices from your list. I do love the name Norah but agree it's to rhymy with your own name.

MerryChristmasToYou · 18/08/2022 20:32

@Pemba , What's your accent?

Does Paul and Pole sound the same?

mathanxiety · 18/08/2022 20:33

I love Eden and Nola.

They're similar in style imo - a bit boho and both graceful.

Quinn is nice too.

I like Norah, but maybe since your name is Laura it's a bit too close.

Piper I'm not too keen on. It's nice for a small child or a young woman up to age 23 or so but I can't see a middle aged Piper in my mind's eye.

perimenofertility · 18/08/2022 20:33

KirstenBlest · 18/08/2022 19:54

@Pemba , It doesn't rhyme in the way that Laura and Maura, or Norah and Cora do

They literally all four rhyme! Hmm

Pemba · 18/08/2022 20:35

Merry, my accent is English (East Midlands). No, Paul is like porl, but pole is like pohl. To me.

mathanxiety · 18/08/2022 20:35

Not keen on Indie for the same reason as Piper.

India with nickname Indie is better.

Butterbean9 · 18/08/2022 20:41

I think they're all lovely, leaning slightly more to your partner's choices.

I like Quinn and Piper the most.

Another name that comes to mind is Shola.

I would spell Oona as Una, I think the double o looks awkward.

Libmama · 18/08/2022 20:41

I’m East Mids too and to me all of those Laura, Maura, Cora, Norah, Dora rhyme! They’ve all got the same ‘or’ sound in the middle and ‘a’ on the end!

MerryChristmasToYou · 18/08/2022 20:47

Pemba, me too. Maybe that wasn't a good example.

mathanxiety · 18/08/2022 20:49

I wouldn't be too sure that a girl with two boisterous older brothers wouldn't be interested in less boisterous aspects of life.

I think you could get away with
Daisy
Greta
Tamsin
Philippa/Pippa
Sasha
Tess
Dru (Drusilla)
Hailey
Juno
Jocelyn (Joss)
Jessica (Jess)

Libmama · 18/08/2022 21:05

Love Joss but it rhymes with the surname 😫

I love Eden & Quinn.
Eden was top of my list for my last baby but he's a boy 😂
My daughter is Aria x

MerryChristmasToYou · 18/08/2022 21:12

I think you should rule out nature names. Eden and River will sound like plants

wherearetheturrets · 18/08/2022 21:33

I love Quinn, but with your surname I think Piper goes best

Mumofgirls2017 · 18/08/2022 22:09

Eden and Piper are lovely!

nola and Quinn ok too

SendARavenToRiverRun · 18/08/2022 22:18

I have a Piper. She gets called Pip more than anything.
Also like Indie and Quinn.

MerryChristmasToYou · 18/08/2022 22:18

Have you considered the name Katherine?

TastesLikeStrawberries · 18/08/2022 22:23

Libmama · 18/08/2022 19:43

I think Quinn sounds more like a boys name to be fair. I’m not keen on any of DP’s suggestions but I can’t veto all of them 😫

Yes I think Indie is becoming a bit too popular maybe… I like Piper maybe with shortening to Pip?

What about Pippa? I prefer it to Piper. Ayda is also nice.

SmokyQuartz · 18/08/2022 22:31

Noa instead of Norah/Nola?

shreddednips · 18/08/2022 22:38

Yes like PP's suggestion of Pippa! It's significantly nicer than Piper in my opinion and sounds better with your surname. Love the other suggestion of Noa too, that's lovely!

Not a fan of Quinn or River. Eden is fine but perhaps not with a naturey surname. Like Norah and if you like it best, I'd go for that despite the rhyming issue. Nola is fine.

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 18/08/2022 22:42

I like Norah best but agree re: your name being too close.

What about Nova or Naomi?

Or Juno, Lyra, Amber if you are looking for a strong, non-frilly girls' name.
