Jude is the German word for Jew. Pronounced Yoo-deh.

I prefer Evan

IHateWasps · 21/07/2022 19:49

Evan. I can't bear Jude.

Fivebeanchilli · 21/07/2022 19:58

Evan.
But I do like both....

JustJeans · 21/07/2022 19:59

Evan.

KylieCharlene · 21/07/2022 20:01

I love Evan.
Jude is OK but I always think the parents are trying to be a bit hip.

daisypond · 21/07/2022 20:21

I prefer Jude. Evan is OK but I know loads who have been called it in the last few years. It’ll date badly.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 21/07/2022 20:52

With Jude being the far more popular of the two, I'd say it's more likely to date.

I know Judes of every age -well, in their 50s all the way to children. All the Evans I know are very young children, so that’s why I feel it might date -a sudden surge in a name tends to eventually date. Maybe there’s more in Wales, though.

DariaMorgendorffer · 21/07/2022 21:16

Jude

Jude is a biblical name and a long-used English name.

Penfelyn · 22/07/2022 03:57

I'd go with Ivan tbh but if that's not an option then Evan !

Lealea4 · 22/07/2022 06:35

I like Evan:-)

savemeagin · 22/07/2022 07:24

I'd choose Jude.

SunshineAndFizz · 22/07/2022 07:27

Jude.

LT2 · 22/07/2022 07:27

@daisypond has there been a sudden surge? I don't think the name has been in the top 100 for a good few years now, whereas Jude has risen in popularity a lot. Thanks for your thoughts though🙂
I only know one Evan, whose a teen, and one Jude, who is a baby.

No, I don’t know if there’s statistically been a sudden surge. It’s anecdotal, in that I know of four Evanses personally, born in the last couple of years.

LT2 · 22/07/2022 09:52

@daisypond OK cool. Where abouts do you live? Makes me feel better knowing there's more! The thing that was putting me off is that it doesn't seem very popular - I don't want to give him a name that people generally dislike🙂 makes me feel better knowing it is actually still used IYSWIM
