Middle name to Clarence

We have decided on Clarence for a boy, but we have trouble picking middle name. We definitely want middle name.
Can't really use Thomas, Charles, William or Henry, but we're open to both classic and unusual middle as long as it doesn't look out of place. Our favorite names are kind of hipster and they don't fit with Clarence.
We like Clarence because it's established name that doesn't sound like other names - which is a plus.

Alexander.

I think Clarence for a baby is awful. Renzo is better but too far fetched from Clarence

LovelyRaita · 05/07/2022 09:34

Renzo is a name in its own right (eg, Renzo Piano, Renzo Ferrari) - just call him Renzo if you like it. It's a real stretch to get there from Clarence.

MissStarry · 05/07/2022 10:04

Renzo is to Clarence what Papa Doc is to Clarence.

(I think the name Clarence itself is nice in a “Rupert” way though)

Coastalcreeksider · 05/07/2022 10:11

There was a TV programmes years ago in the 60s called Daktari and Clarence was the cross-eyed lion.

youcantparktheresir · 05/07/2022 11:26

Renz / Renzo wouldn't strike me as a nn for Clarence. Sounds forced. If you like those names, just name him that.

Clar is awful. I would pronounce it Clah-runse so Clar doesn't sound right. But Clah isn't great too.

Lawrence is MUCH better imo.

Penguinsmum · 05/07/2022 11:33

Absolutely love Clarence. But renz for a nickname doesn't make sense to me. I'd call him by full name. It's a beautiful name.

Ilovesriracha · 05/07/2022 11:38

Definitely Daktari and the cross eyed lion.
Sorry

ChnandlerBong · 05/07/2022 13:22

Clarence nn Renz? that really doesn't work -whatever the middle name.

If you want to call him Renz then you need a name that has that sound in.....

Calmondeck · 05/07/2022 20:13

I know a Clancy Alexander and a Clarence Hugh. Both great guys.

Best wishes on the birth of your son!

Clarence James - CJ
clarence John
Clarence bartholomew
Clarence reign
Clarence George
Clarence Anthony

i think it needs to be strong, Clarence isn’t a strong sounding name, so you want balance
I don’t think names like Peter are strong enough

pinklavenders · 06/07/2022 11:57

Clarence is a great name - strong, classic and not overused. I know a 13 year old one.

Clarence Peter sounds lovely!

pinklavenders · 06/07/2022 11:58

I find Clarence very strong sounding.

Certainly much stronger than the cutesy boys names out there like Teddie, Alfie, Freddie etc

Frida9 · 06/07/2022 16:19

Surely Renz/Renzo are nicknames for Lawrence or Lorenzo, not Clarence. Clarence would get Clarrrie or Clar at best. It's like calling a kid Peter nickname John

For a middle name for Clarence I'd say maybe Alistair, Edward, David, William or Oliver

Fivebeanchilli · 06/07/2022 17:25

Clarence Edgar
Clarence Daniel
Clarence Hugo
Clarence Theo / Theodore
Clarence Elijah
Clarence Jude

Jennylou88 · 08/07/2022 19:00

Clarence James
Clarence Oscar

thegreylady · 09/07/2022 08:55

Clarence was a friendly lion I think so Leo as a middle name 🙂

Theoldwoman · 09/07/2022 14:21

Clarence Reuben
Clarence Benjamin
Clarence Adam
Clarence Elias

ElviraB · 12/07/2022 16:42

I think Clarence Christopher sounds good

LadyHooHa · 12/07/2022 16:48

Clarence is the most fabulous name. Agree with a PP who suggested Augustus as a middle name, though I'd have two middle names if I were you.

Clarence Flavian/Florian Augustus

That kind of thing. If I had had another boy, Clarence would have been on my shortlist.

I think your Clarence will end up being Clarrie, but there's nothing wrong with that. If you wanted Renzo as a shortened form, you'd be better with Lorenzo as his full name (though Clarence is better all round!)
