I used to work with an Archie, he must have been early 30s and very senior, successful software engineer. No one thought he had a baby's name, it was just his name

It was compulsory to call every newborn boy Archie or Alfie a few years ago.

He also goes by Archibald when he's in trouble!

It's OK in a scottish accent. Archibald is not good. Archer is fine as a surname, awful as a first name. Arch is truly dreadful

That is not true. It was fashionable long before Meghan and Harry used it. In fact, I was rather surprised they used a name that was quite common amongst the general populace.

I’m Scottish and, while I am not fond of Archie, it is infinitely worse when pronounced “Erchie”.

I really like it and also do not get the baby name trend. The only Archie I know is 75 and yes was a baby once but has not been held back due to have a babyish name

Honestly it's down market and the ones in England tend to be the naughty boy or one with a bit of a chaotic home life eg like Riley Tyler type names

I have a 21 year old son and Archie was part of the -ie/y trend for names (Charlie, Ollie, Alfie, Harry...) when he was born so Archie js a normal male name if your child has grown up with names like that l.

For someone with teens like me, it's hard to imagine boys with names like Wolf and Bear as adult men (Bear Grylls isn't really called Bear) but undoubtedly it will be the same for them and in 20 years it will be normal.

I think Archie is fine. Not my favourite boys name but not the monstrosity that some pop have suggested.

Are the boys called Wolfgang from the UK? I imagine it as a German/Austrian name because of Mozart

I think it's ok. Just a bit meah. I know 2 Archie's.It seems to have got very popular. Quite a safe choice. There's a good chance that there will be several in the same class/year when it comes to school though

Me, clearly @LadyKenya its properly wanky and very try hard. Doesn't surprise me that you are keen on it either.

Whether you like it or not, the reality is that Harry & Meghan are very controversial & divisive public figures and I would be concerned about perceptions that I had named my child after theirs. I would also ask if that was fair on the child?

@PlanetNormal if you’re concerned about other people’s thoughts on why you named your child a name you like then there’s something wrong.

@salharg but that last comment of yours is in direct conflict with the thread you started asking for people's opinions on the name archie.

@Lalosalamanca no I was not saying I would choose a name due to peoples opinions on here I was simply asking what is the general consensus on the name
