Hi everyone,
would love some help picking out baby girls name please.
My partner is quite traditional which is fine and I like the idea of being able to shorten a name…

middle name will be rose after his mum but these are our top choices

Millie
Ava
Bella
Belle
Isabelle
Sienna

any better name choices along with a different variation of rose would be super helpful!!! Just want something traditional but also a bit up to date xxx

Millicent Rose is traditional and can be shortened to Millie.

MassiveSalad22 · 26/06/2022 22:57

Do you want trendy though? That means it will date such as Sharon and Michelle and Carol and Pat etc.

GAW19 · 26/06/2022 22:58

Maisie Rose Smile

DramaAlpaca · 26/06/2022 23:01

They are all quite popular.

If you like to be able to shorten a name, the best option you have there is Isabelle.

Confusion101 · 26/06/2022 23:04

Stunning names!!!! My issue with Isabelle is some people pronounce it with an "ah" sound at the end, some don't and it always confuses me (I'm a teacher). Even when they correct me it will not stay in my head! Ava is extremely popular in Ireland at the moment! My favourite is Millie. All stunning though. Go with your heart.

Millie - fine as a nn, not as a full name
Ava - nice but done to death
Bella - not as a full name
Belle - a bit stripper / belle du jour
Isabelle - nice but done to death
Sienna - gone very downmarket

Rose done to death as a middle name also

How about Rosanna ? or Rosalind or Rosamund

Millie could be a nn for Emily / Millicent / Romilly / Camilla / Amaryllis

Others you night like

Serena
Sabrina
Seraphina
Christabel
Arabella
Annabel
Ida
Esther
Aphra
Astra
Aster
Adela

If there’s an ah sound at the end it’s Isabella not Isabelle

Many of the girls I teach spell it Isabelle and pronounce it with an "ah" sound at the end.

Sallypally0 · 26/06/2022 23:36

Agatha
Dorris
Maureen

RosesAndHellebores · 26/06/2022 23:38

Rosalind or Rosamund

Millie (Emily, Amelia, Camilla) - bear in mind though that every other friend of my DC in their mid 20s is called Molly or Milly.

Similarly: Isabel, Isobel, Isabella - usually known as Izzie or Bella. Very over done

Ava - more modern - very over done

Sienna - I don't like it, sorry.

Traditional girls names:

Helena
Penelope
Imogen
Alice
Elizabeth
Jane/Mary - making a comeback
Marina
Eliza
Clara
Hazel
Heather
Susannah
Anna

If you must have a Bel I prefer: Amabel, Mirabel, Christobel.

Sounds like you might want something traditional which shortens to something more trendy, so you are both happy.

Eleanor or Elizabeth = Ellie
Matilda = Tillie
Millicent, Emilia = Millie
Evelyn = Eve, Evie
Annabel = Annie, Bel

Butterbeer4All · 27/06/2022 02:46

Cuckoo48 · 27/06/2022 08:17

They're nice names that you've picked but all trendy as in "very popular", rather than trendy as in "cutting edge".
I know multiples of all of them, except Bella / Belle where I only think of one. I know of more Isabelles / Isabellas / Izzys than I can count on my fingers! I would think almost every class in every school has one!

KirstenBlest · 27/06/2022 09:11

Millie - short for ?
Ava - every other Ava will be an Ava Rose
Bella - Bella Rose sounds like 'bell arose'
Belle - sorry but I can't not think bell end
Isabelle - very popular, every other Isabel/Isabelle/Isabella will be Isabel/Isabelle/Isabella Rose
Sienna - not my taste

Your list is of very popular names or nn and the middle name is probably the most used of girls in the past couple of decades, so they seem dull not trendy.

Maireas · 27/06/2022 09:14

They're all very nice names, but not exactly trendy. They're in very common use.
