Is it pronounced like the month or like Augustus without the "us" at the end?

I’d say it like the month

toastofthetown · 21/06/2022 18:42

Like the month.

ZooMount · 21/06/2022 18:42

Like the month

ShandaLear · 21/06/2022 18:43

The month.

isittheholidaysyet · 21/06/2022 18:43

I would say both of those things in the same way?

DurhamDurham · 21/06/2022 18:44

@isittheholidaysyet so would I

toastofthetown · 21/06/2022 19:06

For me there is a distinct difference.
August: AU-gust
Augustus: au-GUST-us

The sounds are the same, but the emphasis is different.

SpinningRoundRightRound · 21/06/2022 19:08

Au-GUST

BertieBotts · 21/06/2022 19:18

Like the month.

MrsWooster · 21/06/2022 19:30

I appear to be the only pretentious pillock who read it as Ow-goost!!

NeedASolution · 21/06/2022 19:43

Ow-goost here too.

Spanielsarepainless · 21/06/2022 20:11

Like the month between July and September.

FayCarew · 22/06/2022 10:36

Au-GUST. Augustus is better as there won't be any confusion

This is what I think too. I'd say the Au-GUST for the name unless told otherwise. I've never met one though.
