Thoughts on the name George?

Where is George at these days in terms of is it considered a nice name or fashioned etc?

Should caveat this by saying I’m Irish and George is currently ranked 84th most popular baby name - so I don’t think it’s as popular as it is in the U.K.

we like the name George as it means ‘farmer’ and we both come from a long line of farmers so a nod to that heritage. Also feel that it’s a strong name, no clear nickname and cute for a baby but also fine for a man.

What are others thoughts on it! We are a bit worried about reactions but Charlie and Freddie and Harry are very popular here so don’t think it’s too out there to use.

George is just a common name run of the mill name so there’s no need to worry about it no one will bat an eyelid

Prince George

I really don't like it , because I have unpleasant memories of someone called George.

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 17/06/2022 17:12

Love it

ofwarren · 17/06/2022 17:18

It's fine. Just a totally normal name that most people won't have an opinion about.

ISeeTheLight · 17/06/2022 17:20

I really like it. It was on our list for DD if she was a boy in 2013, but then Prince George was born whilst I was pregnant so we decided against it as it would be too popular that year. Still a lovely, classy name.

Topseyt123 · 17/06/2022 17:20

I've always liked it. A good, strong name that is suitable for both a baby and a grown man.

ZaZathecat · 17/06/2022 17:21

Lovely name!

HelloMrBond · 17/06/2022 17:22

A very good, solid English name. Far better than many of the obscure things we hear these days.

AnnaSW1 · 17/06/2022 17:29

I love it

KendallRoysRabbit · 17/06/2022 17:32

Great name, I really like it. As a PP said, suits boy and man.

Mitsouko67 · 17/06/2022 17:40

George is strong, silent and reliable. He'll never let you down. And he saved the princess from the dragon so courageous and heroic as well.

Holly60 · 17/06/2022 17:41

George is a lovely name. A classic

love this! My DS is George and he’s fab and so is his name!

AclowncalledAlice · 17/06/2022 17:45

It's a boring name.

AllPlayedOut · 17/06/2022 17:48

Personally I really dislike it. It's such an unattractive dumpy "puddingy" sort of name but I don't think it'll raise any eyebrows if you use it.

drumandthebase · 17/06/2022 18:00

I love it. My dad was a George and DS middle name is
George and i sometimes wish we'd given him George for his first name

Furrbabymama1987 · 17/06/2022 18:15

Love it, but I'm biased.

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/06/2022 01:25

There are many many Georges

No one will think anything. It’s a nice name

RevoltingHumanHead · 18/06/2022 01:39

I'm Irish and don't think I've ever met an Irish George. I suppose it was considered too stereotypically English/royal family a name in previous generations.

There's George Hook I suppose, but look how he turned out Grin

I don't love the name if I'm being honest and in the UK they're ten a penny, but in Ireland he'll probably be the only one in his school.

Marty13 · 18/06/2022 01:47

It is very common but I like the story of St George.

There are also some variants of the name that I like, such as Yuri or Joris, if you feel a bit daring.

allboysherebutme · 18/06/2022 01:57

Love it. X

Boooooooring

PritiPatelsMaker · 18/06/2022 09:42

It's a lovely name and if it's not too popular where you are I'd go for it Smile

Kanaloa · 18/06/2022 09:45

It’s a nice name, popular. Lots of little Georges. It’s a name that’s relatively unremarkable - won’t cause raised eyebrows. Just nice and plain.
