Lucy or Imogen?

Hi all, we're expecting our first and have managed to pare the list down to two names: Imogen and Lucy.

Which do you prefer? Surname ends in -ley if it makes a difference.

Using whichever we don't go with as a middle name is unfortunately not an option as baby is already going to have two of those (honour names).

Thank you! 😊

Wow, thank you all for the feedback - didn't expect there would be so many replies! Not planning on shortening Imogen, if it happens organically it's fine but not really something we're giving much thought to.

The 'y' sound repetition doesn't bother us but it's a valid point, I can see why others feel differently.

We're not sharing names with family and friends so it's really nice to get some unbiased opinions, thanks again!

Lucy, I think. I can’t get on with Imogen - it’s forever a “printer’s error” to me.

bloominglovelyorange · 13/06/2022 07:19

Both great names
I vote Imogen

Mumofgirls2017 · 13/06/2022 07:55

Imogen probably better with you surname but i prefer lucy

piratehooker · 13/06/2022 08:03

Of the two, Imogen sounds stronger and prettier to my ears. Lucy always seems a bit of a 'wet' name to me.

KirstenBlest · 13/06/2022 08:21

Lucy, but depends on how it sounds with the surname.
Imogen is nice but I don't like Immy

SummaLuvin · 13/06/2022 09:49

I like Imogen, knew one who went by Momo with family and close friends and it really suited her.

Like PP I find Lucy very drab and wet. This is despite a close friend being a Lucy who I know to be funny, clever, strong willed and absolutely wonderful, I can't shake the insipid connotation of the name itself.

Lucy

virginqueen · 13/06/2022 13:49

I prefer Imogen, but I'm biased as I have one. The name is different without being weird, and suits every age. A true classic.

alwaysorange · 13/06/2022 15:45

Imogen

RuthW · 13/06/2022 15:50

Lucy. I don't like Imogen at all.

Summerwetordry · 13/06/2022 16:15

Imogen.

AliBaliBears · 13/06/2022 17:51

Much prefer Lucy. It's a name that suits all ages, I know people called Lucy/Lucie aged from young children to women in their 40s.

I can't put my finger on why I don't like Imogen. In general I prefer non-frilly girls names but I'm not keen on Imogen. But it's not a bad name in any way.

ChagSameachDoreen · 13/06/2022 18:01

Lucy.

Imogen is both pretentious and ugly.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 13/06/2022 18:01

I like them both but I prefer Lucy
