Girls name Noa

I love the name Noa for a girl. I think itโ€™s perfect and meets all of my very fussy requirements ๐Ÿ˜†

Just a bit concerned by the popularity of the boys name Noah. Wondering if it would be an issue for the child.

Any thoughts? Or alternative suggestions welcome โ˜บ๏ธ

I think it's lovely

overmydeadbody · 03/06/2022 14:46

I don't think you need to worry about the popularity of Noah. In my school there are three girls named Noa and no boys named Noah. It's a lovely simple name.

If you love it go for it.

MadameFantabulosa · 03/06/2022 14:49

Itโ€™s very popular in Israel. Go for it!

Luredbyapomegranate · 03/06/2022 17:03

It would put me off I have to say, but I think itโ€™s getting popular - if you go for it just pick a more obviously female middle name so she can drop it if it bugs her.

Oona, Lois, Honor, Ida, Aphra, Thora, Esther, Ines, Cleo/Clio, Verity, Leonie, Ismene (Is-me-nee), Selene (Sell-ee-nee), Ianthe, Athene, Circe, Seren, Ffion, Jocelyn, Arran, Aislinn (Ash-lin), Aeryn, Catrin Might all be alternatives

Starbeach · 04/06/2022 09:21

I like it, it's different but not out there different which MN seem to love

WednesdayStar4 · 04/06/2022 09:31

Thanks for all your replies everyone!

@Luredbyapomegranate ohhh I really like Aphra! I think Affie would be a cute nn for a baby/toddler too ๐Ÿ˜

@Starbeach thanks, yes I find it quite fresh sounding, think itโ€™s one of the reasons I love it.

Rachel Riley has a daughter named Noa also. I love it, it's a very pretty name

Snog · 04/06/2022 10:18

Noor? I think it means light

She was the first published female writer too - Aphra Benn. It should get a revival!

Noa is much nicer for a girl than Noah is for a boy. I think it's the -a ending that sounds feminine.

Firecat84 · 04/06/2022 20:51

I met a baby Noa a few years ago - assumed the name was Noah and it was a boy. Was very confused when I met her again and she had turned into a little girl! But beyond babyhood I don't think it's too confusing!

Plmoknijbuhv · 04/06/2022 21:01

How about Joa as an alternative? I know a lady named this and think it is striking and unusual, but would be easy to use. Obviously very similar to Noa but without the confusion of it being mixed up with being a boys name

pinklavenders · 05/06/2022 12:11

Noa is a lovely girls name.

It's not a unisex name like Alex, Sam or Morgan. Noa is a girl's name.

wishuponastar1988 · 05/06/2022 12:14

I really like Noa. I have Nola and Alba on my list!

blameitonthecaffeine · 06/06/2022 07:43

I like it. I'd assume a boy on first hearing it but I don't think that matters. When you see it written down, it's obviously a girl.

I love Aphra though; one of my favourite names and so underused.

Noa is lovely and Aphra is one of my all-time favourites that DP has vetoed ๐Ÿ˜ญ

arielmanto96 · 08/06/2022 21:02

Love, love, love Noa. Would have picked it myself if DH hadn't vetoed it.

DramaAlpaca · 08/06/2022 23:16

I really like Noa on a girl. Which is odd as I detest the boys' name Noah.

PurpleandPlatinum · 08/06/2022 23:20

It just says โ€œold bearded man from the Bibleโ€ to me.

pinklavenders · 09/06/2022 07:21

Noa is beautiful for a girl.

I dislike Noah for a boy.

liveforsummer · 09/06/2022 07:24

I know a Noa. I remember briefly thinking it was unusual for a girl when I very first heard it but it suits her wonderfully and seems totally normal now

RoseMartha · 09/06/2022 07:28

How about Fiona and having the nn of Noa

pinklavenders · 09/06/2022 11:26

How do get from Fiona to Noa?! Fiona would probably become Fee or Iona.

ladycarlotta · 09/06/2022 15:12

RoseMartha · 09/06/2022 07:28

How about Fiona and having the nn of Noa

but why? Noa is a full name on its own.

octoberfarm · 09/06/2022 15:20

I love it!
