How many Islas do you know?

I'm 37 weeks and Isla was a name for the baby suggested by my 5 year old DS. My husband loves it and I like it too but I'm concerned about it's popularity. I don't actually know any little Islas myself (and have lots of friends with babies and small children). How many babies called Isla do you know and how old are they?

Three aged 13,13 & 1month.

inappropriateraspberry · 31/05/2022 20:22

One, vaguely. She must be early teens now.

  1. Ones about 40 and the other two are 8. We're in Scotland.

The first Isla I knew just be around 12-13 now. At the time I mentioned to a friend what a beautiful and original name it was as I hadn’t heard it as a name before (!). I have heard of a number now but I do still think it is a beautiful name.

GreatCuppa · 31/05/2022 20:48

I know 3.

plainwhitecheese · 31/05/2022 21:16

Was unheard of round here when I named dd this (she's now 12) but now it's one of the most popular.

I know dd obviously, a 11 yo, 7yo and 4 yo

Imissmoominmama · 31/05/2022 21:17

One. She’s 10, and the most fabulous human being!!

Flower1976 · 31/05/2022 21:20

I’m in the Northwest and don’t know any. Beautiful name if you choose it.

Luredbyapomegranate · 31/05/2022 22:30

6 - ranging from 2 to 12

Iona might be an alternative

DaleTrimont · 31/05/2022 22:37

I don’t know any, but I am not in Scotland.

SpaceJamtart · 31/05/2022 22:46

Thanks everyone. Would be good to know what location you're in too. I'm in the North West so perhaps not as popular where I am?

I'm in the north east and I know 5, a new born, two three year olds, a seven year old and and 8 year old.

Cattenberg · 01/06/2022 00:04

I used to know a little girl called Isla - she’d be seven now. She was a lovely girl and a very talented dancer. A colleague also has a daughter called Isla, aged 11.

Cattenberg · 01/06/2022 00:04

South-West

confusedlots · 01/06/2022 00:08

My 5 year old knows 4 Isla's. But she also has a popular name herself, and I worried that there would be loads of children with the same name as her, and in fact she only knows 1 other girl with the same name as her. So don't let that put you off if it's a name you love.

Alwayspaintyournails · 01/06/2022 00:08

Five!

23, 13, 12, 11 and 7.

Scotland.

stacestation · 01/06/2022 03:07

Around three under the age of eight.

peaceinourtime · 01/06/2022 03:49

Loads, its definitely a name of the moment though its not a new (last 10 years) name.

SzeliSecond · 01/06/2022 04:24

In North West, know 2 under 4 and there's a good few in the playground at DS primary school

whosaidtha · 01/06/2022 04:52

It's the 3rd most popular name in England and Wales last year. So very popular.

TheLadyDIdGood · 01/06/2022 05:12

6, it's all I hear being screeched across the playground 'Islaaaaah'.

How about Iona or Ailsa instead of Isla?

Goatinthegarden · 01/06/2022 05:57

I’m a Scottish teacher. I know three adults, two newish babies and too many school aged children to count called Isla (some spell it Islay).

About six years ago, I visited a nursery class that had just nine children. Five of them were called Isla!

it also seems to be a very popular dog name around here at the moment.

I know a 9 year old and a 3 year old, also an 18 month old who I thought was called Isla but is actually called Eiler 🙄
