Do you like the name Carl?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
RitaFaircloughsWig · 01/05/2022 04:29

Pilkington 😬

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 01/05/2022 10:15

Prefer the Scandi / Germanic spelling Karl.

LowbrowVictoriana · 03/05/2022 09:35

Don't like it at all.
Doubt I would even if I wasn't Scottish 🙂

Beamur · 03/05/2022 09:39

You'd be at the forefront of the 80's name revival. It's coming.

woodenwindchimes · 03/05/2022 09:41

I love it when names come back! Mable was coming back, wonder if that's still used.

I think bringing names back from the past is preferable to this sudden surge in last names as first names like Leighton or Mason.

Also Claire should be brought back.

HouseofGods · 03/05/2022 09:46

DH and I were just talking about this the other day because of a footballer and it's so hard to pronounce if you're Scottish. I have to really think about it and put a bit of an accent on or else it just reverts to Carol. Same with Pearl (that's even harder - I don't even try, it's just Peril).

QualityGuarantee · 03/05/2022 13:29

Up there with Kevin, Kyle & Gary.

StScholastica · 03/05/2022 17:24

I quite like it, it's different.

Irishfarmer · 03/05/2022 17:35

Not a fan. He sounds like a bore who drones on

CallMeNutribullet · 03/05/2022 18:33

Unpronounceable in Scotland and I suspect Ireland.

I went out with an English Carl as a teenager, he hated that everyone called him Carol.

ElenaSt · 03/05/2022 21:46

I like it as a man's name, I just can't see a toddler being called Carl!

This is a refreshing change from the usual ‘the English mangle everything’ rhetoric of this board. Can’t you pretend it’s spelt Kahl?

KylieCharlene · 03/05/2022 22:18

I quite like it despite struggling to imagine a young Carl nowadays (unfortunately I see it as a late 80's/90's name).
Karl may be the spelling more suited to today.

I absolutely love Carla for a girl though and actually think it's pretty timeless in it's feminine form.

hoomaeyy · 03/05/2022 22:18

No

jammyrose · 13/05/2022 10:55

Biased as its DH’s name, but I like it. If we have a son it will be his middle name.

HorseInTheHouse · 17/05/2022 19:03

I quite like it as it's my son's middle name (but with a K), but to be completely honest it was mainly chosen because it's a family tradition for boys to be Something Karl and that makes it special. I do think it's a handsome name but it probably wouldn't have been our choice if it wasn't for the family connection.

Maybebabyno2 · 18/11/2022 22:59

I once knew a guy called Joel and he was a really great lad. I quite like it actually!

Dreamingcats · 19/11/2022 14:27

I really like it and it's on my list. Prefer with a C than a K. I know one, he's a lovely man.

Frida9 · 19/11/2022 16:34

I'm Scottish and have to say Carl like Carol, not a great name

Roselilly36 · 19/11/2022 16:38

No, but perhaps I am bias, as I have never met a nice person called Carl.

Yellowdahlia12 · 19/11/2022 16:39

No. It's in the same league as Darren and Jason.

FourChimneys · 19/11/2022 16:49

Would you consider Craig as an alternative?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/11/2022 16:52

AlexanderTheGreat · 27/04/2022 16:43

Bit too 70s porn star.

I must run immediately to tell my lovely DH that he has a 70s porn star name 😂😂😂😂😂

nopenotplaying · 19/11/2022 16:52

He was born late 70's/early 80s was a bit of a player in his day. Now he has a beer gut

Hillrunning · 19/11/2022 17:02

I find it hard to say. Does anyone else?
