Expecting baby girl in next week or so (3 older brothers Jack,Henry and Louis)

Thought we had decided on Martha Rose but hubby now not sure and making me doubt the name!? He says he thinks it’s too ‘old lady’

Other Names that were discussed previously

Amelia Grace
Sophia Emily
Maya Rose

Can I ask for help what do people think would a girl called Martha be picked on for being ‘old lady’ are we better going for something top 50 like our boys?!?

I don’t think she’d get bullied - but I do think Martha is a terribly dreary name.

amelia rose is lovely

Celynfour · 26/04/2022 20:58

I’ve got a Martha so I am biased .
Some of the comments have made me 🙈
Servant connotations ? I doubt anyone who is born in a time that uses social media as their main communication style will think too much about servants .
Cant shorten ? Ours is Marta and Marty on occasions .
Harsh ? To my ears it’s a soft , rich name . So I think that’s open to individual interpretation .
There are 3 Martha’s in her large high school .
I can’t count how many Sophie’s , Amelia’s and Sophia’s . Tho I do like those names too .
I think it’s a pretty , timeless name
Martha Rose sounds lovely (tho Rose is a v popular middle name if you’re bothered )
I also think it is a similar style to your boys .
All the best with the birth of your daughter :)

Martha is lovely and sounds modern in 2022
also really like Marnie

delshell · 27/04/2022 05:18

Martha is a nice name and seems to be making a bit of a comeback - I know two young Marthas.

I don't like Maya at all. Not keen on Amelia. Sophia is lovely, but both that and Amelia are way too overdone for my liking. Martha sounds fresher and would definitely be my choice.

PinkSyCo · 27/04/2022 05:29

Martha is such an ugly name. I like Sophia Rose.

Bee356 · 27/04/2022 12:22

Feel like Martha is a marmite name either you love it or hate it!!

I don’t like Martha (biblical drudge/handmaids tale etc), but it’s quite popular so wouldn’t be considered old lady.

I’d probably stick with it as your other options are Uber popular

Pember · 28/04/2022 00:49

Martha is my favourite of your list. Not too old lady, but old lady enough not to be boring IYSWIM!

Your other options are pretty but very very popular.

Maybe you’d like something like Margot, Sylvie, Mabel, Violet, Iris, Ivy, Alice, Cecily, Flora/Florence, Rosa, Eliza, Cora, Phoebe, Nina, Clara?

rubydoobydoo · 28/04/2022 01:01

Martha is one of our cats' pedigree names (I think the breeders were Doctor Who fans!) - always thought it was a little bit frumpy but it's grown on me a lot now and I like it!

I prefer Martha and Maya out of your choices.

Our four legged Martha goes by Violet though 😅

Thoughts on the name Lavish as a given name? Meaning is lord of love, Cute & Luxury.

Nn Lav? I don't think so. It's too Lav-ish.

beetree1 · 28/04/2022 10:32

Martha Rose is a beautiful name and goes well with your sons names. I wouldn't think it was 'old ladyish' either.

I went to school with 2 Martha's and I'd never heard the name before. Neither got picked on for their names. I say go for it :) You'll never please everyone

user1492757084 · 01/05/2022 02:31

Martha Rose is lovely. Jack, Henry, Louis and Martha go well.

Alternitives:
Eliza Rose

Grace Amelia
Camilla Rose

orchidsunrise · 01/05/2022 03:23

Martha is a pretty common name nowadays, I know three. It's certainly not viewed as old lady now.

Amelia Grace and Sophia Emily are reallllllllly boring and a bazillion other girls have these names.

StageRage · 01/05/2022 04:43

Martha Rose is great!

garlictwist · 01/05/2022 04:52

Martha is very pretty!

Please god not Amelia grace though. It just sounds very boring to me.

Nancydrawn · 01/05/2022 04:56

Martha is a lovely name—by far the best of the options.

teezletangler · 01/05/2022 04:57

I have always loved Martha! It's the best of your choices.

CheerfulYank · 01/05/2022 04:58

I like Martha! But it is hard to shorten etc.

I would say Sophia or Amelia. Maya is pretty but seems too “new” with the boys’ names.
