Heidi by a country mile. I agree with PPs that Esme sounds wet, but I just prefer names with a hard consonant in them.

The love for Esme is probably due to the popularily of vowelly names (Ellie, Evie, Eva, Erin etc) and names like May

Like lots of names, if I heard of it for the first time, I'd think it was ok but popularity makes it a bit meh.

I'd choose Heidi. Fabulous name.
Esme just doesn't look right and is a bore alongside the Eva/Ellie/Isla/Ava crew.

I’m biased but definitely Heidi. I know so many Esme’s, it just blends in a bit.
