Jago or Raphael?

I know they're v different.... but which would you go for?

We have Cornish reasons to choose Jago, but I have a real soft spot for Raphael (which I would shorten to Rafe).

Short, v British, boring surname - in case that's relevant.

If you hate them both then no need to comment (wishful thinking maybe!).

Being Cornish I have to say Jago 100%. It is top 3 of our list of boys names, although don't know whether it's a boy or a girl yet. If you are thinking about Cornish boys names, you could also consider Jowan or Lowen too Smile

Raphael

I really love both these names. If I had another son he might have been Raphael (or Gabriel)

Y7drama · 13/04/2022 21:29

I really like them both sorry OP! Maybe Raphael?

LittleDidSheKnow · 13/04/2022 21:44

Tricky... they're both great names, and a refreshing change from the plethora of Henrys, Georges, Olivers, etc

I think Jago is narrowly better in my opinion, though.

Firebird83 · 13/04/2022 22:05

Jago, definitely.

Luredbyapomegranate · 13/04/2022 23:23

Jago as you have Cornish connections
Or just Rafe
Raphael is quite fussy, but ok

Padderbadger · 15/04/2022 02:03

I like Raphael but Rafa for short

beans1992 · 18/04/2022 21:58

Jago is a brilliant name

TeaOnTheMountain · 18/04/2022 22:05

I really like both but on balance would go Jago because of the blonde British thing… plus the Cornish connection is really nice 🙂

TheGratefulBread · 20/04/2022 07:43

I have a Rafael, we call him Rafi. Therefore I'm obviously going to say Raphael!

However that said, Jago is gorgeous, so you can't really go wrong with either choice.

FayCarew · 20/04/2022 07:59

Raphael isn't exotic. It's popular around here.

FayCarew · 20/04/2022 08:11

Add to that, some might spell it Rafael, it is probably more popular than it seems

WinterWinter2021 · 20/04/2022 09:46

Raphael :)

SemperIdem · 20/04/2022 22:23

Love Jago!

Really like Rafe as a given name but think Raphael is a bit much unless you have Italian heritage

maybein2022 · 22/04/2022 18:34

Jago! Love it.

user3199 · 22/04/2022 20:43

A friend has a 2 year old Jago - I'd never heard the name before but really like it. She does sometimes have to tell people how to pronounce it. Since then, I've come across one other Jago, also aged 2 so maybe it's becoming quite popular? - if it becomes more mainstream then the pronunciation will be less of an issue over time.

Also like Raphael but much prefer the Rafael spelling.
