Olive, Zara, Milla, Theodora, Letty or India

Thoughts on our shortlist, or similar name suggestions:

Olive
Zara
Milla (Millicent, Amelia or Camilla full name)
Theodora (Thea or Teddy for short)
Letty (Violet or Charlotte full name)
India (I guess Indy for short)

If we don't use Olive as a first name it would be the middle name.

How is Olive so bad but Olivia the most popular girls name. Names are so bizarre really. Most are so lovely just don't name them anything that is an obvious target for bullying

My husband is Indian and he thinks people refusing the use the name India based on some weird faux-concern/guilt over colonialism is ridiculous and best and insulting at worst. The country is literally still called India??! They have an identity outside of colonialism for goodness sake. India is a nice name. If you like it, use it.

@Grumpasaurusrex I agree. The other poster is being stereotypical assuming just because you are Indian you must have that type of name rather than Camilla or Kate. Times have moved along... many people are called India but are white/black.

Priya is also a lovely name again Asian sounding but I think it's lovely.

Zara is lovely.

Olive or Theodora

Olive - I prefer Olivia.
Zara - quite sharp and harsh
Milla (Millicent, Amelia or Camilla full name) - I like the long names but find Milla very chavvy
Theodora (Thea or Teddy for short) - I like this, Thea nicer than Teddy for short. Teddy is too try hard.
Letty (Violet or Charlotte full name) - I don't really see this as a natural short for either. Maybe for Lettice or Letitia.
India (I guess Indy for short) - cheap.

I love Olive. A beautiful name and I love the peace connection.

Zara is nice. Just dislike the clothing store connection.

Milla is lovely by itself. I'm not a fan of the longer names but if I had to choose, I'd pick Camilla.

I really dislike Theodora, Thea and Teddy. Just doesn't sound nice IMO.

Not a fan of Letty or Charlotte. Violet looks and sounds like Violent so a definite no for me.

I love Indie but don't really like India.

I have a Zara. She is 9. Nobody really comments about the shop. We live rurally but when we go to a city occasionally that has the shop she loves that it has her name!

Olive zara or Zara olive, I love India but if you are sticking with the middle name Olive then it doesn't go at all!

Olive - not keen (on the fruit and name)
Zara - ok, not many around at the moment.
Milla (Millicent, Amelia or Camilla full name) - really dislike this nn. Amelia is overused. Milly and Camilla are fine.
Theodora (Thea or Teddy for short) - not keen. Also Teddy is a boy’s nn.
Letty (Violet or Charlotte full name) - her friends will come up with a different nn. Letty isn’t the first nn I’d think of.
India (I guess Indy for short) - not keen

@Luredbyapomegranate you said Indiya was a unique dopey spelling and you stated if you not from an Asian origin India as a name should not be used. .

Lettie isn't really a nn of Charlotte. That would be Lottie surely. Letitia maybe?

I love Otillie but DH is not keen sadly. It would probably be my first choice!

Theodora (Thea or Teddy for short) - No
Letty (Violet or Charlotte full name) Doesn't work with Charlitte. Letitia might be an option
India (I guess Indy for short) - No to both
