Sye as in your eye.

Sye -Bell or sye-Bee-Leh or sye-Bee-Lee

I’d say it with emphasis on the 2nd syllable and a short “I”. - Si-BELLE

A slightly French version of Sibyl.

Seyebel sound v weird. And as if you don’t know how to say Sibyl.

Neongoddess · 01/04/2022 15:12

I would go with the hard C.

GreenWhiteViolet · 01/04/2022 15:14

Sib-ay-lee

I know it as the name of the goddess but have only ever seen it written, not heard it.

itssquidstella · 01/04/2022 15:14

SIB-eh-lee

itssquidstella · 01/04/2022 15:16

(Agree it should be Kib-eh-leeeeh really but in English we do traditionally soften the C for Ancient Greek and Latin loans.)

ChicCroissant · 01/04/2022 15:20

Cybeh-lee, because it looks like cyber (but without the r being pronounced, more eh than er).

I did wonder if it was someone looking for a different spelling of Sybil.

Neverreturntoathread · 01/04/2022 15:31

Sigh-belle

DrDetriment · 01/04/2022 15:33

Either a yoonique spelling of Sybil or Si-bee-lah. Either way, not good.

Goodbyetowinter · 01/04/2022 15:36

Makes me think of Fawlty Towers - "Sybil" yelled by John Cleese.

RonSwansonsChair · 01/04/2022 15:39

Sigh- beh-lay

Completely wrong, I'm sure.

Lubeyboobyalt · 01/04/2022 15:39

s-eye-bell

NameChangeCity123 · 01/04/2022 15:43

@whatausername

I read it the same as Sibyl
Me too
SweetPetrichor · 01/04/2022 15:48

Sih-belly

Synchrony · 01/04/2022 16:01

First guess was Sigh-belly.

GeneLovesJezebel · 01/04/2022 16:03

The same as Cybil.

Concestor · 01/04/2022 16:10

Sigh-bee-lee
Sigh-beal

I'm not really sure to be honest! I'd have to ask.

mrsmolks · 01/04/2022 16:35

Sybil

Kite22 · 01/04/2022 16:51

With no linguistics background, I would say

Sigh Bell

with equal emphasis on both. But with a question mark in my voice as I looked hopefully round the room to see if anyone responded Wink

Frillyfruli · 01/04/2022 17:08

Absolutely no idea but if pushed I'd go for sigh-bee-lee and be fairly sure it was wrong! It sounds like a contraceptive pill rather than a name.

Madrenetterhere · 01/04/2022 17:10

I read it as sye (rhymes with eye) belly. Sye-belly.

Madrenetterhere · 01/04/2022 17:11

Sye bel E

Topseyt · 01/04/2022 17:16

However you are supposed to pronounce it (and that is not at all clear), it is absolutely dreadful.

I hope nobody is planning to inflict this on their child!!!

HeadPain · 01/04/2022 17:20

Si as in Simon, and belly as in belly…..

Claricestarling1 · 01/04/2022 17:51

Sib-El
