Stuck on three Baby girl names

BethanyLouiza · 20/03/2022 11:58

We have a little girl due in 4 months, our first, and currently stuck on three names that both myself and husband absolutely adore.

Nesta
Livia
Emery

Looking for some help deciding. Last name begins with an A.
Thanks!

I'd choose Emery to stop it running into surname e.g. Nesta/Livia Allison end up sounding like one long word without pausing in between.

Emery is nice :)

GeneLovesJezebel · 20/03/2022 12:04

I prefer Lilia to Livia, and Ebony to Emery.
Emery is what you file your nails with, and makes me think of Dick Emery who keeps popping up on TikTok for some reason.

MadameDragon · 20/03/2022 12:06

Livia

Ikeameatballs · 20/03/2022 12:06

Emery is the one I’m least keen on but does work best with a surname starting with an A.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/03/2022 12:10

Does your surname start with a soft A sound as In Anderson or a hard A sound as in Acaster?

The first will run into Livia and Nesta, so of three, I’d choose Emery, even though all I can think of is “Rmery board”.

My first and surnames run together to make a completely different, and perfectly normal, other name.

KylieCharlene · 20/03/2022 12:12

Livia

VampireMoney · 20/03/2022 13:03

Emery is what you file your nails with so that would be a no from me.

Nesta.. also no.

Livia is the nicest of the 3 but if I'm honest I don't like any of them.

Hadtocomment · 20/03/2022 13:08

I like Nesta best. A bit different. A lot of people seem so negative on here.

duvetdayforeveryone · 20/03/2022 13:15

Out of your list: Emery. I prefer Everly.

Amdone123 · 20/03/2022 13:19

I love Livia.
Nesta is a lovely sound but feels like it should be short for something?
Emery - I'm surprised I quite like it ( heard Avery the other day. Similar)

Eliphanbee · 20/03/2022 13:23

How about Everly as an alternative to Emery?

BethanyLouiza · 20/03/2022 13:45

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. We have decided to remove Emery from our list, Due to various reasons. Everly has been suggested, but I have a niece with that name, so we can't use it, although it is lovely.
Still between Livia and Nesta, but both leaning more towards Nesta.

Nesta is the nicer of the two, Livia will always be correcting people that she's not Olivia.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/03/2022 13:52

@DoucheCanoe

Nesta is the nicer of the two, Livia will always be correcting people that she's not Olivia.
Agreed, you’ve reminded me of a Livia I went to school with.
2tired2bewitty · 20/03/2022 13:53

I like them all, but I’d be a little concerned with Livia that you (and eventually they) spend a lot of time explaining that it wasn’t Olivia, which might get tiresome.

Yellowbeeblueflower · 20/03/2022 14:03

I would be worried that if someone listens to the name Nesta would think of a boy spelt Nestor...

Marvellousmadness · 20/03/2022 14:21

Nesta sounds like a coffee brand.
And here in Australia you'd say that Nesta would sound like Nestor. So I'd assume Nesta is a boy

Livia sounds like the O is missing (olivia).

scottishnames · 20/03/2022 16:38

Nesta (or Nest or Annest) is an old Welsh version of Agnes. Not a coffee brand. The 't' at the end of Annest might flow better with your surname.
There was a previous Mumsnet thread about it [https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names/1646716-One-for-the-Welshies]]

Livia is an ancient Roman name - over 2000 yeas old. Olivia is a relative newcomer.

canyoubelievethat · 20/03/2022 16:40

Livia

caringcarer · 20/03/2022 18:19

Don't leave me any of them but least of all Nesta.

user1493494961 · 20/03/2022 19:04

Livia is the best out of a bad bunch.

Mumofgirls2017 · 20/03/2022 21:31

Livia but Olivia nicer

isitme111 · 20/03/2022 21:35

Livia

Nesta makes me think of - a nest of tables.

timoteigirl · 20/03/2022 21:45

Emery is like emery board for nails so least liked from three. I get what previous posters have said of first names ending in A and family name beginning with A though. I like Livia best but think people may mishear and think they didn't hear O that it is Olivia. IMHO Livia is a million times nicer than Olivia.

Nesta.... never heard of. Googled and learnt it is from Wales. A bit like IKEA furniture name sorry.

Is it too late to suggest other names?

WeasilyPleased · 20/03/2022 22:24

I have a friend called Nesta. She's ace so I'm saying go for that!
