Thoughts on the name Opal?

Also, any middle name suggestions?

I prefer Crystal.

I think so many middle names would go with Opal and it's beautiful.

We have an Opal, so maybe bias but I love it and have had nothing but positive comments. Nothing about the sweets or the car but only "what made you think of that?" Or "was she born in October?". Opals were actually considered good luck in ancient times and it's apparently quite a 'new' superstition for them to be bad luck...something to do with a misinterpretation of a novel, although the name escapes me.

It's sweet. Opal is my birthstone and I've never known anyone named it. I think it's a lovely name and so unique.

I love the name Opal but husband said no and we had a boy anyway!

Opal is my birthstone but I also was brought up to believe it was bad luck.
Beryl is another gemstone name (emeralds are part of the Beryl family) but I don't see that name coming back anytime soon. As a middle aged person I associate the gemstone names with the old ladies of my 1970s childhood but I suppose things come back round again, so why not if you like it...
