That’s what Lily-Rose means to me too! I loved that book.

Paulette - beautician from legally blonde Kiera- Knightly Siofra- never heard of it Evelyn - unsure how to pronounce. Too popular. Sarah - Boring woman in her 30s/40s Charlene - the country singer on the Simpsons (she's Lurlene but it reminds me of that) too American. Aylish- Billie Eilish. Not a fan, sounds too modern/made up Megan - I like this, as long as you're happy with royal link Kyra- Keira spelt wrong, or is it kai-ra? Sounds made up is so. Eleanor- again not sure how to pronounce, sounds quite posh and old lady ish Maia- is this like Maya? I prefer Maya spelling, this one looks made up. Lily -rose- beautiful, but very common name
Snowbell99 · 14/03/2022 14:13

Síofra is SHEE-fra.

Maia is an old Roman name from mythology, not made up of creative spelling.

Mrs Ruggles would have loved the baby name board! "I really want to name our first baby Carnation Lily Rose after the lovely painting but DH says over his dead body"
MuddyLotus · 14/03/2022 15:31

Paulette - laundrette, Pauline, quite sweet all the same

Aylish - never heard of it
Megan - Beth, Jo, Amy, Meg + Megan thee Stallion.
Kyra - mixed race black and white, personal trainer, has a white audi tt.
Eleanor - elf from LOTR
Maia - either pretty, long brown hair, kind. Or a bit on the rough side. Could easily go either way.
Lily-Rose - Depp. Milly molly Tilly Ellie Luna Lola Grace May Rose.

PinkGinBigGrin · 14/03/2022 15:36

Paulette - sounds like someone who works at one of those burger bars in America where the waitresses wear roller-skates! Or worse, a hooker.
Kiera - OK but a bit chavvy (sorry, I hate that word)
Síofra - wouldn't know how to pronounce it and will lead to a lifetime of having to correct everyone
Evelyn - pretty/a nice name
Sarah - nice, a bit boring but maybe due a comeback?
Charlene - Aussie with blonde poodle perm
Aylish - someone trying to be trendy by giving their child a silly name

Eleanor - nice
Maia - nice but quite common (as in popular )

PinkGinBigGrin · 14/03/2022 15:39

Paulette - Grease 2

Yes! And this!

All together now: "Hey Paulette, take a look over here - I'm your kingpin honey and I'm gettin' in gear!"
"Hey Johnny, Johnny go for that strike, and I just might be your baby tonight"!

Anoisagusaris · 14/03/2022 15:44

Siofra (Irish name) isn’t quite Shee-fra but I don’t know how to write it phonetically for non-Irish speakers!

Snowbell99 · 14/03/2022 15:50

Yes, I know that there is a short sound between the EE and the F.

thebellsesmereldathebells · 14/03/2022 15:54

Paulette - euch. Paul from the garage, in a bad wig.

Kiera - pretty nondescript

Síofra - Irish flame-haired beauty, fiery temperament

Evelyn - perfectly ordinary, born in the last 5 years or so

Sarah - dullsville, and dated

Charlene - Australian or American. Blonde. Bit cheap.

Aylish - yuck. Made-up or misspelt - not a good sign

Megan - like Sarah, slightly less dated, not much imagination

Kyra - nice enough.

Eleanor - lovely, elegant, timeless

Maia - horrible sound, bit of a nothing name

Lily-Rose - either Johnny Depp's daughter, or a bunch of flowers.

AuntFlorence · 14/03/2022 16:02

Paulette- sounds like a fabric or a kind of overall.
Kiera- knightly. Who I am not a fan of.
Siofra- never heard this before. Looks like it might sound a bit like Sofa.
Evelyn- no strong feelings.
Sarah- every other girl in the 80s
Charlene- Sarah's sister.
Aylish- it's very annoying when you get an aylish in your eye isn't it?
Megan- Meh.
Kyra- banks. America's next top model host. Not a fan of the name.
Eleanor- I like this name it's a classic.
Maia- I like this name too.
Lily-rose- double barrel names have class connotations for me not gonna lie. I like both Lily and Rose as stand alone names but anything hyphenated I would avoid.

scottishnames · 14/03/2022 16:52

Paulette - diminutive 'ette' endings not really to my taste, but I once met a very nice French woman with this name, so that influences me.
Kiera - prefer Ciara. Possibly too closely associated with Ms Knightley.
Síofra - pretty - not too difficult to say if you've heard it once. Makes me think of the 'sithean' = 'hollow hills' of Scottish Gaelic mythology, where the fairies live.
Evelyn - I think of the fabulous percussion player Evelyn Glennie. She says 'Ev-linn'.
Sarah - I rather like this, even though it's not fashionble. Think of the Bible story and of several good friends with the name.
Charlene - reminds me of that very unhappy-looking S African woman who's a princess of Monaco.
Aylish - not the usual spelling, surely? Eilis or Ailis (can't do fadas on this machine, sorry)
Megan - OK, but not my taste. Yes, it does remind me of another unhappy looking royal, but I feel rather sorry for her. Much prefer 'Meg' as a name (think 'Little Women').
Kyra - Prefer Ciara. To my ears, 'ky' = rather a harsh sound. Makes me think of 'kye' = old word for cattle.
Eleanor = makes me think of Eleanor of Aquitaine, which can only be a good thing. But don't much like short forms 'Ellie' etc. Not that keen on Norah, either.
Maia = makes me think of spring and Maytime, and ancient Greek/Roman myths. Gaia also good.
Lily-Rose = as previous poster said, makes me think of the famous 'little girls in a flowerbed' painting. And, as another poster said, both names are nice separately, if a little ubiquitous, but too sweet for my taste when together.

@DoorLion
@Cattenberg

A few years later, Mrs Ruggles again: I’m expecting boy twins soon. I would love to name them Philip and Bartholomew but my husband says they’re much too posh and ridiculous.
