My partner's family have suggested this name for our DD. It would be pronounced "Ta-NAY" I hate it! Sounds like a totally "made up" name to me.
Don't want to offend his family but it sounds awful to me. H

Does it have some cultural significance? As an ignorant Brit it makes me think of Tannoy and no one wants that in a baby.

Why would you even entertain the idea if you hate it? It doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks, you and your DH both have to like it! (Especially you Wink)

It's not a made up name. It's an Indian/Sanskrit name that means "son of the wind".

Not sure of any cultural significance. My FIL is West Indian, MIL is white. Not particular significance has been mentioned and my partner has a very "traditional" name like "John".. Not his real name but as common as.

Bit odd to have an Indian name if you are not Indian.

This phrase is used a lot on MN but it's apt in this situation: they've had their chance as parents to make choices for their children, they need to let you make your own choices for yours.

You have to love the name you give YOUR baby. Tell them thanks but you have other ideas that yourself and child’s father will decide on. No one else’s business.. I said nothing to anyone until both my kids were born and then said ‘this is ….’ No discussion this is his/ her name. End of!
