Phoebe, Charlotte, Hannah or Matilda?

These are the 4 girls names that my husband and I agree on. I know they are all very mainstream and not hugely exciting though! Which, of the 4, do you prefer, and is there anything else we might like? Husband has vetoed SO many of my choices, Josephine, Orla, Freya, Georgina, Juliet, Rosie, Penelope etc.

Charlotte is my runaway favorite!

Footnote · 09/03/2022 20:14

Hannah

happystory · 09/03/2022 20:14

Charlotte my absolute fave!

sadpapercourtesan · 09/03/2022 20:15

I like Charlotte the most - so pretty, elegant and timeless.

Matilda and Phoebe are nice.

I loathe Hannah. Never liked it.

scandihouse · 09/03/2022 20:17

Definitely Matilda and I love alliterative names so wouldn't mind Tilly T

OliveTree75 · 09/03/2022 20:26

Matilda! Also I have a Harry H and I think it’s really cute

Purplestar148 · 09/03/2022 20:33

Favourite is Phoebe. Beautiful name, love the meaning, history and it’s known but not overused
I like Matilda too, strong name with good nickname options

Hannah possibly a bit dated, quite dull. Charlotte is ok, a classic, but also a bit dull to me.

wishing3 · 09/03/2022 20:34

All lovely but I think Hannah sounds really fresh these days. Not met a little Hannah for a good while.

MrsCremuel · 09/03/2022 20:34

In order of preference:
Matilda - love it
Phone-beautiful
Charlotte- like it
Hannah-meh, there were soooo many at school it puts me off

ouch321 · 09/03/2022 20:42

I like Charlotte but it risks being seen as copying the royals.

17caterpillars1mouse · 09/03/2022 20:46

I love both Hannah and Phoebe. I don't know any little Hannah's but a few Phoebe's so I think I would go for Hannah

I like Matilda but they are ten a penny in my local area so it feels a bit meh now.

Charlotte is ok I like both nns Charley and Lottie (though there are alot of Lottie's round her)

heidihigh · 09/03/2022 21:20

Hannah is gorgeous.
Phoebe
Matilda (only third because I don't like Tilly)

Charlotte

RosesAndHellebores · 09/03/2022 21:53

Charlotte
Hannah
Mathilda

Totally irrational but I don't like Phoebe. I don't like how it's spelt and I don't like how it sounds. Apologies tonall Phoebe's and dd has a lovely friend of that name.

ShowOfHands · 09/03/2022 21:54

I have a Mathilda and never liked Tilly. She's doing her GCSEs and hasn't once been called Tilly. She's Mathilda or occasionally, Mat to her best friends.

Hannah is a lovely name. I also like Josephine and would have used it for DS if he'd been a girl. Shame your DH has vetoed. It has great nicknames: Joey; Sephy, Josie; Phin.

ladygindiva · 09/03/2022 21:58

I like phoebe best but they are all lovely names x

maybein2022 · 09/03/2022 22:31

Thanks everyone. Mixed opinions!

@Mumofgirls2017 thank you for your lovely suggestions! Would you believe that almost every name on that list I like, but has been vetoed by DH, except for Lucy, which he lies, and has been vetoed by me! Grin

@ShowOfHands I know! Josephine is such a great name but he won’t hear of it. That’s interesting that you’ve managed to avoid Tilly as a NN for your daughter.

We will find out the sex in a few weeks and honestly, if it’s a boy it will be even harder than finding a girls name!

Thanks again.

They are all fine, in order

  1. Hannah - classic, elegant, not overused, nice nns (Annie, Nancy) if she wants them
  2. Charlotte. Classic. But so overused.
  3. Matilda. Sparky, but overused
  4. Phoebe - ok but a bit wet. And Pheeeebs
RosesAndHellebores · 09/03/2022 22:49

What about Xanthe.

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/03/2022 22:50

Otherwise… Stella, Marianne, Esther, Honor, Claudia, Susannah, Serena, Lois, Frances, Francesca, Louisa, Marina, Philippa, Leonora

Rosemary2022 · 09/03/2022 22:55

Charlotte by a mile! A sophisticated classic - with beautiful nicknames

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 09/03/2022 22:57

DogsAndGin · 15/03/2022 21:56
