Am looking for opinions and suggestions :)

I just found out I am pregnant again last week after trying for 8 months since my MC at 10 weeks. Things are not quite progressing as perfectly as I had hoped but I decided to let myself dream and I've been looking at names again after a long break.

Last time I was fairly set on either Charlotte or Harriet for a girl and August or Henry for a boy. But now I feel like I want to expand my horizons a little :) I am open to suggestions! Here's what I have so far -

Girls:
Charlotte (Lottie), Harriet, Georgia, Elizabeth (Ellie), Olivia, Alice, Maisie (feel like it needs a full name.. Margo?), Violet, Matilda (Millie), Emmeline

Boys:
August, Henry, Wilfred (my family HATES this), Elliot (Elio or Lio), Otis (but not sure I could do it).

Middle names:
Rose for a girl (after my nana and me) and I'm open to boys' names. I'm considering either Joseph or John for my brother or Dad but think I want to just go with something I really like (I have considered doing two middle names too...). Other boys' names I like as middle names - Henry, Wilfred, James, Wells, Atticus, Laurence, August.

I have a fairly traditional style although I like names like Sawyer, Felix, etc I'm not sure íf I could do it. Maybe as a middle name though!

btw I live in New Zealand - Charlotte is the number one number here but given to only 230ish girls as context.

Thank you :)

From your list for boys, I really like Hugo but it's my nephew's name! I also like Theodore but it doesn't feel 'right'. I like Ellis but in NZ it sounds the same as Alice. I also love Alexander (and Oliver) but I hate the way names with -er sound with our accent... think Olivah / Alexandah. I really like Elio but think I'd do a full name, Elliot. Fredrick is also great!

From the girls I love Eleanor and it has been on and off my list a lot. I love the nn Ellie. I like Daisy but it's a bit too cutesy for me, although oddly I find Maisie okay. I like Florence and Juliette a lot too. And love Sadie but I feel like I want to give my girl a more formal, elegant-sounding name. But my last name starts with S and I do like alliteration. It's a shame I don't like any other names that start with S!

If it helps, traditionally, Maisie is short for Margaret. It can also be a version of May, which is a short form of Mary. Both are nice names. Margot is another short form of Margaret.
Sadie is traditionally short for Sarah.

Charlotte, Elizabeth, Harriet, Alice, Matilda all good names. Am not so keen on Georgia, Olivia or Violet but they are popular so clearly many people do.

Emmeline has been revived and is very much 'of the moment'. So is August. (I prefer Augustus.) But that might not matter to you. Joseph and John great as middle names - and having two sounds like a good idea: one for family, one - perhaps a bit more daring? - that you like.

Fingers crossed for you 💗.

I'm in NZ too I like Alice & I love Otis it was actually the boys name we had picked for my youngest. It's just entered the bottom of the top 100 for last year too.

Iris is the Greek personification of the rainbow, a messenger of the gods. Might be a nice nod. Nice name too.

DoorLion · 08/03/2022 11:10

I like Ellis but in NZ it sounds the same as Alice.

I had a NZ literature tutor at university who asked us if we "knew our Ellis" and when we all went blank went into a rant about how could we not know Ellis, Ellis was such an amazing children's book, Ellis in Wonderland and Ellis Through The Looking Glass.

I like all your names, we have similar taste (love Charlotte and Harriet) Some others I liked as well were: Sarah, Lara, Amy for girls, Sebastian, Bertram (Bertie) for boys.

Sorry for your loss, I am now 20 weeks after 3 losses. Best of luck x

I wanted to have a special middle name because of that. For girls I was originally thinking, Hope, Faith, or Joy. But have decided on Iris as it means Rainbow :)

I really can't come up with anything symbolic for a middle name of a boy so far.

I like all your names apart from August. I will be going either Clara or Pádraig

irishfarmer · 08/03/2022 11:18

Actually for the boy middle name I like Benedict it means blessed.

babyjellyfish · 08/03/2022 14:04

Emmeline Rose.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions and opinions. I really appreciate it!

@scottishnames thank you! I don't like any of those traditional names for Maisie or Sadie. I do like Margot though. But not enough.

Yes, I'm thinking 2 middle names, one I like and one for family. I found a name that's French; Aveline. It means desired. I thought that would be nice e.g. Charlotte Aveline Rose.
