This. Letters instead of a name is dreadful. Ajay is fine. AJ or any variant of that as a legal name is going to cause a lifetime of issues for the child, who will be an adult much longer than they are a child.

Just had a flash back to the 90s when sending messages on my Nokia 3210 and trying to cut my word count down on a txt message by abbreviating absolutely everything to the point the message barely made sense.

From a practical viewpoint, having punctuation symbols in a name could make it awkward when typing it into forms that aren’t geared up for them. I remember a colleague whose surname began with O’ having problems with that on occasion.

Don't use punctuation in their name.

I taught a class that had (I'm using the OP's name so changing it) an AJ and an Ay-jay.

i've only ever seen it written down so never had to say it out loud.

I had to call someone once who's name was spelt (i think ) xioaxi had no idea how to pronounce it. luckily she picked up the phone and said her name. apparently pronounced shaowshi would never have tried that.
