Traditional girls name

Hi all I have 2 boys and boy girl twins on the way. Totally stuck on girls names. Looking for something traditional, the boys all have biblical names. Thought I’d throw it out there incase anyone has any good ideas! Irish Catholic family so Mary seemed a tad too traditional!

I have three boys, also Irish Catholic family with Biblical names lol. Anna was top of my list if we’d had a girl.

delfttulipvase · 07/02/2022 12:24

Ruth? Esther?

What about a saint's name? Catherine?

EileenGC · 07/02/2022 12:25

Rebecca and Hannah are some of my favourites

SummaLuvin · 07/02/2022 12:33

In terms of quite traditional names I like:
Bridget
Clara
Claudia

I also love Evangeline, not really traditional, but strong religious connotations.

We had a reading from the Book of Ruth at our Wedding so we used Ruth as a middle name for one DD, Mary for another but that was also a family name. I love Ruth and Rachel - probably best to avoid same initial for twins. A variation on Mary might work, like Maria, Marie. Maria might become popular this year because of West Side Story.

From the bible also - Ellen, Ann, Chloe, Lydia (love this), Elizabeth, Abigail, Leah, Rebecca (who was the mother of twins), Eve, Julia, Judith, Hannah - all lovely classic names but you wouldn't automatically think biblical for many of them.

Miriam
Judith
Esther
Naomi

Rachel - lovely biblical name and I know a 3 year old Rachel. When I first heard it I thought dated, but actually it's not really grown on me and really suits her

Ruth - not very popular on Mumsnet but I really like it alot. The student midwife who delivered dd1 was called Ruth and she was lovely

Sarah - a classic that's not overly popular ATM

A few traditional but more out there

Magnolia
Talitha
Octavia
Hepzibah

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!
I’m liking Tabitha but worried abit of a witches cat name?! Do also really like Ruth and Nora. Like Faith but as a big Buffy the vampire slayer fan it might seem abit much 😂. Can’t do a variation on Mary as suggested by a pp as half of my other half’s ex’s seem to be called Maria/Marie etc lol . Rachel wouldn’t really be up my street, perhaps I watched too much friends!
We settled on the boys’ names really quickly so not sure why I’m finding it so tricky this time!

I really like Tabitha abs definitely wouldn't think "witches cat" if someone introduced me to a new baby Tabitha.

Sunnyday321 · 07/02/2022 17:04

No witches cat thoughts from me .

Luredbyapomegranate · 07/02/2022 20:39

Susannah
Serena (a lovely virtue name)
Lois
Elizabeth nn Lizbie, Libby, or BUFFY ofc
Annalisa (blending your biblical names)
Constance
Anna or Annis
Rosanna or Annabeth, Annabel
Sarah nn Sadie to jazz up if you like
Shoshanna
Hope
Theodora (gift of God)
Dorothea (means similar I think)
Sophia (wisdom)

I really like Tabitha

I will be honest and say Ruth just makes me think of a dog barking, and I know Nora is being used again but it sounds like snore and reminds me of 1940s spinsters (not the cool resistance kind, the cardies in bed kind)

DueyCheatemAndHow · 07/02/2022 20:43

We have a Dorothea, Greek meaning God blessed

I second Lucy as a suggestion.

Laureatus · 07/02/2022 22:14

I'm and Elizabeth and honestly think it's the perfect girl's name. As a more unusual choice, I know an Atarah it's a Biblical name I wasn't familiar with at all and very rare!
