Favourite at the minute is Madeline (not bothered by McCann connection)

I'm Irish and we definitely pronounce the s at the end of words, I've never heard Annaliese pronounced Anna Lee before, I love Eleanor it's so elegant, one of my favourites

Annaliese/Annalise if you can come over to pronouncing it An-ah-LEEZ . Not Annaleigh, it’s too YEE HA 🤠 🐎. Annabel and Annabeth are nice though.

Otherwise Eleanor, which I don’t think has been overdone in Ireland like the UK

Or if it has, Madeline/Madeleine which is OK, but she will be called Maddy, unless you enforce Lena from the start

Norah just makes me think of a spinster (not the fun sort) librarian c 1955 who wistfully reads a lot of mills and boom while wearing a cardigan in bed.

I’m Irish. I know and Anneliese and it’s pronounced Anna-Lisa (though she goes by Annie). There is no reason to ignore the “s”, Irish or not!

I also have a friend called Anneli which is pronounced Anna-lee if that’s what you want.

If you want Nora and are Irish then spell it that way.

I would not recommend naming your daughter Anna-lee, however you want it spelled.

see when I think Norah I think Norah jones or Norah from how I met your mother! It’s interesting how different names bring up different things to people!

I don’t know if I’m any further along choosing 🙈🙈 point taken re Annaliese needing either a different spelling or pronunciation. Annali is ok and does get the pronunciation we like.

Still really like all of Eleanor, Nora(h) and Madeline.

I really don't think she will thank you for calling her Annali when she is older.

I’ve never heard Anneliese pronounced without the s - Anneli would be pronounced like that though.
Anneliese (with s) is my favourite. Madeline otherwise. Eleanor is nice but I don’t like Ellie, and I don’t like Nora.

Anneli (that spelling) is an established Scandinavian name - not sure why anyone would object to it?

Because teenage boys will nickname her "anally".

It’s not pronounced anything like “anally”, and with the proper spelling (Anneli) it doesn’t even look like that word.

Kids will tease about anything but this is a bit of a stretch IMO.

I went to school with an Anna Lee and the boys made her life miserable.

There’s always the fear of being that story I read in some trashy mag years ago where parents called their son Drew. Which was fine but their surname was Peacock 🙈🙈

My dm was obssessef with show jimping and her heroine was a rider called Anneliese Drummond-Hay. Her name was pronounced Anna-lee so it does exist. I think it's pretty.

I like Eleanor best.
I know a lady in her sixties called Annily and it's pronounced Anna-Lee. Although she doesn't like it and just uses Anna.

I love Norah (makes me think of Norah Jones) and Madeleine (the Madeline spelling is a different pronunciation to me).

Eleanor is lovely but there are so many Elle, Ellie and similar names that I'd go for Norah over Eleanor... or Nell instead of the full Eleanor.

I'm also in Ireland and would say Anna-leese (s pronounced) not Anna-lee. I don't know any though.

I'm a Madeline and most people said Mad-eh-leen here as I was growing up (emphasis on the Mad bit, not the leen bit). I've heard more people, especially younger people, say it as Mad-eh-lyne recently.

The Madeleine spelling would be closer to the pronunciation you're looking for, but I think people will mix them up anyway.

I do know of an Irish Annaliese who pronounces it Anna-lee, she also has German heritage (but I doubt that's how it's pronounced in German either).

I'd say Anna-lees or Anna-leez myself.

I like Eleanor, OP, and also Nora (with or without the h), though it used to be considered old-fashioned. Maybe it's time for a comeback? Agree it could be used as a short form of Eleanor.
I'm in Ireland too and the Madeline I know is a Mad-uh-leen rather than a Mad-e-lynn. I know there are various pronunciations of Madeline/Madeleine so you'd need to be okay with people sometimes getting it wrong, I think.
Annaliese is a bit fussy for me personally, I would definitely pronounce the s though, unless I was told otherwise.
