Camilla or Cosima?

I love both so much, but just can’t decide!

Nicknames Mila or Cosy.

My only concern is Cosima is a bit less known so may have pronunciation issues.

@Blubells

If someone pronounces zimmer as zimmah GrinShock
what?
DramaAlpaca · 29/01/2022 17:59

I think Cosima is usually pronounced COZ-imma, not COZ-eema. Diminutives I've heard of are Mimi and Coco.

I like both Cosima and Camilla, so I'm not much help.

ElectraBlue · 29/01/2022 18:17

I am sorry but these names have been done to death...

It just screams middle-class bore.

HacerSonarSusPasos · 29/01/2022 18:23

Camellia instead of Camilla

StrawberryFever · 29/01/2022 18:24

Strongly dislike Camilla.

I like Cosima, though as others have said, by default I wouldn't pronounce it the way you've put (and don't really like the -eema pronunciation personally) for me it would be more Coss-ima (rhyming with Boss and the -ima from Fatima)

FooKingDong · 29/01/2022 18:27

@MissBattleaxe

Nigellas daughter is called Cosima and I think her nickname is Coco
I thought she was Mimi?

Anyway, they are both nice names, and not remotely 'out there'.

MissBattleaxe · 29/01/2022 18:35

Oh yes you're right Mimi. Sorry! Oops.

Lightningrain · 29/01/2022 18:43

I know an Italian Cosima and it’s pronounced Coh-see-mah. I really like it unless there’s a different English pronunciation.

I’m not keen on Camilla as it just makes me think Parker-Bowles.

SirSamuelVimes · 29/01/2022 18:57

Neither. Camille is lovely though.

Hellodaahling · 29/01/2022 19:45

Nigella’s daughter is cosima! But nicknamed Mimi which is cute. I don’t think these names are overdone personally as not very popular as a whole.

So tricky I love both.

Hmmm coss-ima doesn’t seem to flow for me… and I do think it would annoy me if I’d have to keep repeating myself because the name is more “unknown”. My older daughter has a name that I have to repeat often and it is rather bothersome

I like both which isn't that helpful (and also love similar "posh" Latin influenced "C" girls names like Claudia, Cordelia, Cressida, Celia and Cecilia!).

However I do think Camilla just feels that touch more classic somehow, so would be my pick of the two. I also do use the word "Cozzi" to describe a swimming costume too - could be a Midlands thing?

tigerlilymochalatte · 29/01/2022 20:46

Camilla or Camille, very pretty

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 29/01/2022 21:00

I only like Camille as pronounced in French. The English pronunciation is a bit blah in comparison.

MissBattleaxe · 29/01/2022 21:11

Ooh yes Camille is lovely.

SunshineOnKeith · 29/01/2022 21:27

Cosima
Great name

Mimi is nicer than all the other names suggested in here.

@IamnotwhouthinkIam I love all the names you mentioned!!

Deffo camilla

Kitkat151 · 29/01/2022 22:34

I really dislike Cosima
Both Camilla and Camille are fine

Totalwasteofpaper · 29/01/2022 22:34

Camilla is lovely Smile

LowlyTheWorm · 29/01/2022 22:39

Camille is better and at least has the “Mila” sound for the nickname. I can’t understand why cah-mill-ah would have the nn “meela” sound?

caringcarer · 30/01/2022 00:45

Camilla ok but never heard of Cosima. A bit like costume.

Luredbyapomegranate · 30/01/2022 09:50

I like Camilla better, but there are a lot of Milly names out there.. so if that bothers you then Cosima. I think most people know how to say it.

Cosy is a bit odd. I don’t think it necs needs a nickname, although the one I know is Mimi to family, and Mim to close friends.

Luredbyapomegranate · 30/01/2022 09:53

Most idiotic comment of the thread 🥇

On what planet have Camilla and Cosima been done to death?

Meandthesky · 30/01/2022 10:12

I like Cosima but don’t like Cosy
