Elodie for a girl?

mayneman · 28/01/2022 08:36

Wife and I having our first. It's a girl Grin

We both have slightly unusual names (hers is only her, and mine is not rare but uncommon)

Struggling to come up with a good name but we both want something not so common. So far we like

April
Lana
Lili
And Elodie

April is rejected as family name is Mayne
Lana - nice but we kind of went off it
Lili - we really like but there are apparently 1000 lilis now

We also have a problem in that she will be half Asian and we kinda want to avoid stereotypical Asian-in-the-west names so Lili and April would fall into that.

So we're quite keen on Elodie right now.

Any thoughts?

Everyone I've told it to so far has said 'melody?'

I love it!

LadyDanburysHat · 28/01/2022 08:40

I love Elodie, it's a very pretty name.

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/01/2022 10:20

It's nice, and it's quite popular so I don't think people would constantly confuse it with Melody.

It will possibly date a bit, and it is one of many many el names (Eleanor, Ellie/a, Isabel/la etc) - if that bothers you.

WillowintheUK · 28/01/2022 10:26

Nothing wrong with Elodie, but I always feel it sounds like a not quite finished name.

How about Elise, Elsa, Eleanor, Eliza?

AmbushedByCake · 28/01/2022 10:28

I know an Elodie. It's a very pretty name.

Tandoorimixedgrill · 28/01/2022 10:30

Love it, ours would have been Elodie if they were girls.

onedayoranother · 28/01/2022 10:31

Yes I know an Elodie. No one ever has mistaken it for Melody.

Nikki305 · 28/01/2022 10:33

Elodie is a lovely name

FlamingoDust · 28/01/2022 10:53

Elodie is lovely! I always like the sound of Lana but in being 'anal' in reverse puts me off

Jewel1968 · 28/01/2022 10:55

I love it. It was my choice for baby but I had a boy.

ClaudiaWankleman · 28/01/2022 11:32

I think it's really pretty but also agree with PP who said it doesn't sound 'finished'. I have no idea why - it's totally irrational.

BillyBarryBoo · 28/01/2022 11:33

Elodie is a beautiful name

Buddhabowl · 28/01/2022 13:02

I like Elodie but prefer Melody.
I love Lana on your list, or Alana even more so.

Justkeeppedaling · 28/01/2022 13:10

To be pedantic, it should be Élodie.
I'm not keen tbh - there are quite a few around these parts.
I prefer Melody, although I don't like that much either.

scandikate · 28/01/2022 13:12

It's fine, I know quite a few though so wouldn't say it wasn't common. She will probably get Ellie which is sweet but worth considering.

louderthan · 28/01/2022 17:29

I know an Elodie, she's super cool and very talented! Lovely name

PattyPan · 28/01/2022 17:31

It’s ok. Like it’s not ugly but it’s definitely overrated. I prefer Elise, Eliza, Eloise.

olivehater · 28/01/2022 17:34

I know a few so it’s not uncommon but it’s very pretty. I love Lana though. Far less common. Very sophisticated rather than cutesy

Rollonspring1111 · 28/01/2022 18:14

See that would never have occurred to me.

I love Elodie btw.

onesweetlife · 28/01/2022 18:16

I like it although I've met a few recently.

Adatwistscientist · 28/01/2022 18:18

Love it. If my son has been my second girl he'd have been Elodie.

Nomorefuckstogive · 28/01/2022 18:19

Élodie sounds lovely with your surname. Beautiful name. I really dislike Lana and Lili, I’m afraid.

DillDanding · 28/01/2022 18:21

I love it. I know a few though so my reservation would be it’s the new Sophie/Amelia…

Facewipes · 28/01/2022 18:28

There’s a few where I stay, I personally dislike it for sounding overly fussy/frilly (but i of course always say oh what a lovely name to the parents when I hear it!). I do like Lana but it sounds a little dated to me, what about Alana?

WhoppingBigBackside · 28/01/2022 18:42

I'm not keen on it. There are lots of names starting with El and it's a bit nothingy

How about Taylor?
