I have started a new thread as was worried people would miss the update! With a few weeks to go we are still undecided on baby girls name! Big bothers Louis,Jacob and Harry. What are peoples views on the following particularly Martha would it be shortened to Mart??

Martha Rose
Sophia Grace
Matilda Mae
Amelie (Milly) Louise
Evie Grace/Rose

Martha Rose is perfect, definitely my favourite from your list, and I've never heard of any Martha being shortened to Mart!

Ginandplatonic · 27/01/2022 03:29

Martha is great. And perfect with her brothers’ names. Would never occur to me to shorten it to Mart.

Second favourite from your list is Matilda. The others are unobjectionable but very popular.

Goldfishmountainclimber · 27/01/2022 04:55

I prefer Matilda but not with Mae. How about Matilda Rose?

YukoandHiro · 27/01/2022 04:59

We sometimes at home call our Martha just "Marth" - mainly when moaning at her to hurry - but it's not a nickname and nobody else uses it. Marthie is a nickname sometimes used.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 27/01/2022 05:15

Martha is a really lovely name but ruined by the utterly tedious Rose, Mae or Grace. Those filler middle names are absolutely everywhere. Why not choose a novel different middle name?

SoonbeSpringtime · 27/01/2022 06:44

I like Martha best from your options OP. With three big brothers your little girl will be better served by a strong name rather than a cutesy one.

I’d pair it with Louise because I agree with a PP, your other suggestions are very much need a middle name fillers.

Have never heard Martha shortened to Marth.

Redwinestillfine · 27/01/2022 06:47

Amelie. Gorgeous. With 3 boys I'd go girly rather than something that can be shortened to a boy's name.

BugsyDrakeTableScape · 27/01/2022 06:50

My Martha has never been shortened to Mart - in fact I don't think anyone shortens it at all. Her best friend's nickname for her is longer.

She is Martha Elizabeth

wingsofabird · 27/01/2022 06:53

Love the name Martha

HelloDulling · 27/01/2022 06:56

The Martha I know is called Martha-Moo if anything. Martha is a lovely, lovely name.

LaurensILikeYouALot · 27/01/2022 06:58

How about Martha Matilda?

I agree that Rose/Grace/Mae are very very very common middle names. I know a couple of Sophia Graces and a Matilda Rose. If you don't mind that factor, then it doesn't matter.

MysticCT · 27/01/2022 07:01

I prefer Amelie as I really like Millie as a nickname.

deathofastrawberry · 27/01/2022 07:05

Martha ❤️

Lou857 · 27/01/2022 07:12

Thank-you everyone see what people mean about the middle name being very popular any other suggestions on middle names?

I love your names! Very similar taste to me!

Martha Rose is beautiful

I also had Matilda Mae/Rae on my list.

Another I had and love and would have probably been the front runner was

Phoebe Louise

itsgettingweird · 27/01/2022 07:16

Martha Paige
Martha Louise
Martha Anne
Martha Eve
Martha Marie
Martha Elizabeth

Martha is lovely

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 27/01/2022 07:46

How about Martha Matilda? Bit different. (I like all the middle name choices except Mae, but I agree as middle names they are bit "filler).

Roselilly36 · 27/01/2022 07:59

Many congrats OP, how exciting for you. I not keen on Martha, always makes me think of Arthur, if I am honest, sorry, I like Sophia but prefer Sophie, Laura, Amelia. I agree with other posters Grace & May as middle names are quite overused, I like Rose though, unless you have a family connection with those middle names of course. Good luck OP.

Mumofgirls2017 · 27/01/2022 08:01

I like Martha and Matilda best and they go fine with your boys. I don’t think Martha will necessarily be shortened to Mart- in my experience it tends not to be shortened at all.

Holly60 · 27/01/2022 08:03

I love Martha Rose. Or Martha Grace

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/01/2022 10:22

Congratulations!

I am not personally a fan of Martha, wouldn’t want to name someone after the biblical kitchen drudge and now also makes me think of the handmaid’s tale.

I like all the rest - probably Matilda the most, would spell May like that, and would give Eve as a full name

Matilda Grace is nice - or Matilda Eve is more unusual (i think 90% of girls must have Rose, Grace or May/Mai as a middle name)

EIIa · 27/01/2022 10:24

Oh come on OP, throw in a daring wildcard like Beatrix or Ottoline - those middle
Names are the figure Louise and Sarah’s

Crimesean · 27/01/2022 10:26

Don't call her Mart - she'll get "Mart the fart" at school.

Agree re: crap filler names - Mae in particular is a class marker she'd be better off without.

Martha is a lovely name, as is Matilda.

LaurensILikeYouALot · 27/01/2022 10:27

For middle names, can you look through your family tree for any names you love?

Or any special meaning you want to include? For example truth, bravery, beloved, etc.

Any number of syllables that work or don't work with your surname?
