Thoughts on Henry and Isabelle/Isobel

Happy Monday Mums net!

We are currently trying for our little bundle of joy after sadly miscarrying last year.

I'm here for some honest opinions please. What are your thoughts on the name Henry for a boy? My last name begins with an H so it would be HH which isn't a problem IMO.
I typically love traditional and strong names but wonder if this is a little too strong.

We found girls names soooo difficult and never agreed upon one last year but recently I have been quite enjoying the name Isobel/Isabelle NN Belle. My questions are: has it been done/seen its day and how do you spell it!?!
We are from Ireland but wouldn't dare spell it the Gaelic way 😂 I love the prettiness of Isabelle but also like the fresh Isobel no frills spelling. We were thinking Mae as a second name after my DH's mother.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be amazing. Thanks in advance Smile

I like Isabelle. It is a very popular name, but it’s a pretty name regardless.
I don’t like the name Henry, to me it makes me think of an old man, I can’t imagine a toddler called Henry. I prefer Harry. If you like it though, go for it, it’s a sensible name.

Alliteration in names isn't my thing but if you like it then Henry H will be lovely.

Not too keen on Isabelle but that's just because of the popularity here, it might not be the same where you are. DD had 3 Izzy's in her class at Primary.

We have a 6 month old Henry H and we are currently trying for our second, and Isobel is the girls name we've chosen. So yes, I love your name choices! Grin

I love both names Henry is lovely and so is Isabelle.
I wouldn’t spell it Isobel- just don’t like the look of it for some reason. Anyway congrats!
I’m also in Ireland and I only know one baby Isabelle. Always been one of my favourite names. I think Charlotte would go great with Henry too:)

Isabel is super popular in the UK - and I think pretty popular in Ireland too? but it's a lovely name anyway. Prefer Isabel or Isobel spellings as less frilly. May/Mae is a bit of a cliche middle name as you know, but's it's also nice, although I'd go for the classic May.

Henry is very popular in the UK so sounds tired, but it won't in Ireland. I don't think HH is a problem.

My exMIL ruined this for me with Isabelle Necessary on a bike? Sorry. Very popular and a pretty name.

Rainbowqueeen · 27/01/2022 03:14

Love Henry
Never been keen on Isabel and its popularity plus the prospect of Issy as a nickname would mean no from me. I much prefer Bella Even though it is still popular

Ginandplatonic · 27/01/2022 03:34

Perfectly nice names. VERY popular, particularly Isabelle, but I presume you know that and don’t mind. I vastly prefer the Isobel spelling to any of the alternatives.

AuntieStella · 27/01/2022 06:21

There were oodles of Isabel (and variants) born about 2006-2010

Followed by oodles of Sophie (and variants) and Evie (and variants)

Isabelle is a lovely name, and I wouldn't let a blip in popularity put you off, especially as it's now in the past.

SweetPotatoDumpling · 27/01/2022 06:44

I taught twins Isabelle and Henry...both gorgeous children ♥️ Beautiful names OP.

Fleur405 · 27/01/2022 07:06

I like both names. I prefer the Isobel spelling but then I’m Scottish and that’s the way it tends to be spelled here. Isobel (and it’s many other spellings) has been popular here for a while but that’s because it’s so pretty. If you like it, I’d go for it. I only know one Henry though.
