Got down to two names with both of us with a preference for a different one but we like both.

What one do you prefer?

Una

Incidentally, is it a coincidence that you've narrowed it down to two names that happen to coincide with the number "one" in different languages? (una in Latin and mia in Ancient Greek.)

resm · 24/01/2022 11:39

Una, though Mia is nice too.

8stone13 · 24/01/2022 17:42

I thought I was having an extreme case of deja vu when I saw this as I was certain I'd commented on the exact same thread a couple of weeks ago! But I hadn't imagined it, here it is:

Una all the way for me 🙂

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/01/2022 17:44

How about the name Minna ?

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/01/2022 19:16

Oona - I love it - but spelt like that if possible.

Mia is just so blah, there are 17 billion of them, and there are about 3 ways of saying it. (whereas Una said as Yew-na was just a weird 20th century UK pronunciation that has died out - but anyway spelling it Oona/gh solves that)

mathanxiety · 24/01/2022 19:18

Una, or you could spell it Oona.

Mila is a really insipid name

Una has a lot of pizzazz.

BiscuitLover3678 · 24/01/2022 19:21

Mia is cute but very popular. I like Una depending on how it sounds with your surname.

BiscuitLover3678 · 24/01/2022 19:22

Mina is a similar feel

Marlena1 · 24/01/2022 19:36

To me they are massively different in terms of style. I'm Irish and Una to me would be very old fashioned. I love Mia ❤

Bluemamma · 24/01/2022 20:36

Mia by mile. Sorry but Una has to be one of the worse names out there… Mia is lovely though

Jeschara · 24/01/2022 20:46

Una is lovely.

urbanbuddha · 26/01/2022 22:42

Mia.

babyturtle19 · 21/04/2022 22:58

Mia

DramaAlpaca · 21/04/2022 23:02

I don't like Mia.

Una is OK. Very middle aged in Ireland though. I know loads, all in their 50s.

Pember · 22/04/2022 00:02

Mia is a bit bland, but Una is fabulous!

Robinni · 22/04/2022 00:55

Mia

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/04/2022 08:49

Oona 💯

Mia is massively overused and undistinguished, Oona in need of a revival

But unless you are Irish and really want the original spelling I would spell it Oona or Oonagh. In the UK Una can be mispronounced as Yew-nah which isn’t nice.

Firebird83 · 22/04/2022 12:37

Una. Mia is overused.

FayCarew · 22/04/2022 12:45

Una. Mia is overused and meh

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 22/04/2022 12:50

Mia is a slang term for bulimia, which puts me off slightly, but I'm sure if I knew a person called Mia that association would fade.

TeddyTonks · 22/04/2022 12:52

How about Iona?

user3199 · 22/04/2022 14:30

I like Una/Oona
Not personally keen Mia but there's nothing wrong with it - I prefer My-a pronunciation rather than Mee-a

MinoucheSapphic · 29/04/2022 09:10

I prefer Una/Oona. It's more unexpected nowadays. Mia is very overused among the current generation of kids and will probably date.

FinnRussell · 29/04/2022 09:20

Una is a great name ❤️

Nitties · 29/04/2022 10:18

I love Mia
