Anneliese?

What does everyone think of the name Anneliese shortened to Anna/Annie?

I was watching the Diary of Anne Frank at 3 o'clock yesterday morning (we love the insomnia) and I thought her full name (Anneliese) was beautiful and can't get it out of my head.

Full name would be Anneliese Jane (after a late relative).

DH and I can't agree on ANYTHING and when I mentioned it this morning his response of 'not terrible' has been the biggest breakthrough we've had in ages.

My only reservations would be that it's quite uncommon and that the spelling may be a little confusing at first.

I love it, it's beautiful. But also a strong name that I would take seriously.
PPs said about misspelling, my name is always spelt incorrectly. It doesn't bother me at all. I only correct someone if it is something official

Beachbreak2411 · 26/01/2022 13:11

Beautiful name. One of the mums at school is called it and it really suits her. Love there are many variations it can be shortened to!

PattyPan · 26/01/2022 13:12

I think it’s a lovely name and Jane balances it out well

Cotswoldmama · 26/01/2022 13:30

My middle name is Anneliese I love it, I'm named after my German grandma. In Germany it's spelt Annelies and pronounced Annaleeza. I pronounce mine the English way as it's spelt the English way Annaleeze. I must admit I don't like like it pronounced Annalease. It reminds me of the character in neighbours who pronounced it that way!

Firebird83 · 26/01/2022 14:23

The one I know is Annaliese “Anna”

Anne Frank was Annelies without the e at the end.

lazylockdowner · 26/01/2022 14:26

Beautiful name, I have a 18 year old one, her nickname is Annie

Squeakerfoot · 26/01/2022 14:36

Beautiful choice!

takingmytimeonmyride · 26/01/2022 14:37

It's a beautiful name, one of my favourites (but I had boys)

AnnaMagnani · 26/01/2022 14:42

It's a lovely name. Everyone will say it's a lovely name.

Absolutely no-one will know how to spell it. It is totally NOT mainstream enough for people not to struggle with the spelling. Especially as there are so many spellings.

It's also pronounced Annalisa. People will manage this in school. After that, forget it.

Don't ask me how I know this Grin

HWBWithStripes · 26/01/2022 14:55

How would you pronounce Annaliese?

How about Annabeth as an alternative?

Pamlar · 26/01/2022 18:07

I love it.
Fabulous name.
Hope you use it

trevthecat · 26/01/2022 18:10

Very similar to my name. I often get comments on my name about it being lovely

Marcipex · 26/01/2022 18:27

Nice name. I know of only one, who is 8.

funnyasduck · 26/01/2022 18:43

Anna is a lovely name. One of my favourites so I’d leave it at that.

crumpet · 26/01/2022 18:50

I like it name. I also know an Anneli which is a pretty name

goldfluffyclouds · 26/01/2022 18:54

@Foxesinsockses

Anneliese Annaliese Annalise Annelise Analyse (I think this last one may have been an autocorrect 😀)

Have had them all, doesn’t bother me, everyone always says what a lovely name it is. AKA Anna.

Snap!!! Waves at name twin!!! Smile
MyHusbandTheIdiot · 26/01/2022 18:57

I love it, wish DH had let me use it, though we did choose a relatively similar name in the end. I prefer the Anna-leez pronunciation though I think and I reckon that would be the more commonly used pronunciation.

AnnaMagnani · 26/01/2022 19:03

@Foxesinsockses

One of those is the actual spelling I use. No-one, no-one especially immediate family members who should know better has managed to hit on it at random.

I just tell people to spell it how they like now and answer to the English version. But it makes me happy when a rare person actually remembers how I say it and sticks to it.

Hello name twin!

ScrambledSmegs · 26/01/2022 20:28

Now that takes me back to the 90s! I would have thought a lot of people in the UK in their late 30s/40s are aware of the name Annalise thanks to the character in Neighbours

It's a very pretty name and having a very simple, boring, ordinary 5 letter name that has been mangled hideously all my life I really don't think misspelling is that big a deal any more.

Gillyx · 30/01/2022 10:13

Love the name Anneliese and I think people would know how to pronounce it and so many names have a choice of spellings so I wouldn’t worry about that.

I also love Rosanna which has a similar feel.

UserBot9to5 · 30/01/2022 10:44

I really like it.

UserBot9to5 · 30/01/2022 10:45

I have never done German and I know how to pronounce it. It's not that rare.

LittleMrsMama · 30/01/2022 10:45

Beautiful name!
