Nameless baby boy - help!

LO is 6 weeks old and nameless (yep, it's been a struggle). The top name picks are Oscar, Vincent, Jasper, Finn, Leonardo and Percy... I think. My favourite name is Caspar, but ex-p believes he'll be bullied.

Oscar - I like it, but too popular for my liking.
Finn and Percy - nickname names imo, they feel incomplete and I can't picture an adult with either name and I dislike any full versions of them.
Vincent - I can't decide whether I love it or hate it.
Jasper - similar sound to Caspar without the friendly ghost association.
Leonardo - would inevitably be shortened to Leo which is incredibly popular.

I like timeless names and those that are known but uncommon, such as my daughter's - Athena.

Thoughts on any of the top picks, any first name suggestions, any middle name combos for the listed names? Anything really, any kind of input, I'm tired of circling round and round with names after over 10 months! Thank you in advance Smile

I love Jasper

nocoolnamesleft · 21/01/2022 23:32
@nocoolnamesleft Um, 6 weeks? Doesn't that mean you've run out of time to register the birth?

Technically yes, however as there have been a lot of delays to registering births due to covid, the soonest appointment I could get was May(!), unless I am offered a sooner date.
Phew! Gives you a bit more thinking time.

harriet465 · 22/01/2022 06:44

I love Francis too

sunnyhoneybumblebee · 22/01/2022 07:09

Jasper and Finn are my favourite on your list, I like Casper too. I really dislike Percy, sorry.

How about,

Tobias
Gabriel
Alexander
Asher
Jonah

GoldilocksZone · 22/01/2022 07:23

Because they go with Athena:

Xander (Alexander)
Cyrus
Cassius

I know a few Jaspers. I think all your name choices are nice, including Caspar!

GoldilocksZone · 22/01/2022 07:24

And can I throw Felix into the mix as it just seems to fit with your original choices @sconosciuta

NoSquirrels · 22/01/2022 07:38

Both Caspar and Caspian are lovely.

Little kids don’t know about the friendly ghost- the reference is way out of date. And even if they did, so what? All the Thomas’s in the world aren’t scarred by the Tank Engine association and Harry remains perennially popular despite the boy wizard. (In fact I’d avoid Percy on this score as you’re either Percy Jackson - cool - or Percy Weasley - not cool!)

Go with your heart. Caspar.

sconosciuta · 22/01/2022 08:37

@sunnyhoneybumblebee I'm least keen on Percy too, I've rid the list of it now.

Jonah - I did actually stumble upon yesterday, I like how it sounds, that may be because it's like AtheNA! I'm going to try calling him Jonah for a few hours and see what I think.

@GoldilocksZone What are the Jaspers that you know like, do they suit the name?

OP posts:
sconosciuta · 22/01/2022 08:42

@GoldilocksZone Oh, and to add, if I had two sons right now, they'd be Felix and Caspar. I adore Felix, trouble is that my parents beat me to it 21 years ago!

There were several Caspars in my kids’ classes at school - none were bullied because of their name. If you’re concerned about the Friendly Ghost thing I really don’t think it will be remotely on the radar of kids born today. Go with the name you love.

Oh please call him Jonah it's such a nice name. I'd use it if I ever had another son but I'm not having any more 🥰

Jonah is lovely.

GoldilocksZone · 22/01/2022 09:12

@sconosciuta they are cheekily clever! The name suits them. I think it's great.

Bit of another out there suggestion but would Caius hit the Roman/c-sounding/Caspar-Felix feel?

I think whichever one you choose will be lovely, they're all great!

@NoSquirrels Would your opinion on using Caspar change if I added that the child was mixed race (white/black)? The qualm ex-p has is that the ghost association would be used in a racially derogatory way. Though it's likely that children of LO's generation won't know of the friendly ghost, and given the Persian origin of the name, it feels like quite a multicultural name to me. Anyone have any thoughts to add?

This is my thinking, it's such a dated association. That's good to know your experience of current day Caspars. I'm not personally concerned about it as I can look past the association. Imo it's not even a bad association, he is a friendly ghost after all.

@sunnyhoneybumblebee Jonah is definitely in the running, it may well end up being his name!

OP posts:
sweetbellyhigh · 22/01/2022 10:16

Not Jasper.

The only good names are Luca and Timothy

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/01/2022 10:31

I think Casper is fine but if your ex hates it, What about Cassian rather than Casper?

Athena and Cassian

Caius a great suggestion. Or Kester?

Ivo rather than Oscar?

I don’t like Vincent, because he’ll be Vinnie and it’s thuggish. Percy is odd. Rest ok but v popular.

Other thoughts

Victor
Lucian
Zachariah
Jerome
Jethro
Jude
Guy
Francis
Alistair
Lysander
Darius
Joshua
Josiah

I love Vincent! Great name.

JugglingJanuary · 22/01/2022 10:53

I still prefer Finn out if your list. What was the consensus last time you posted this?

PinkestMoon · 22/01/2022 13:43

When I read your post and heard your daughter's name, the name that popped into my head as fitting well was Cyrus
