Right, we have our top three girls names:

Nina
Anya
Lara

Would be grateful for some of your views and favourites for us to read together later. So helpful as we aren't telling people our choices.

Nina - easy to say and spell. Downside Ni-na-ni-na-ni-na siren
Anya - ok but I much prefer Anna
Lara - ok, Dr Zhivago tune. I prefer Laura

Nina is the best of the 3 IMO

sleepypandaeyes · 19/01/2022 13:26

Thank you @KirstenBlest Nina is edging it for me but was worried about it becoming a bit trendy. I think DH prefers the other two.

Love Nina and Anya

Lara is a bit dull imo.

Deadwould · 19/01/2022 13:34

Nina is the nicest by a country mile.

BasiliskFace · 19/01/2022 13:36

I love Lara, I really like Anya, there’s nothing wrong with Nina but it’s not for me.

ivykaty44 · 19/01/2022 13:39

Lara
Anja

Nina reminds me of the sounds

KirstenBlest · 19/01/2022 13:40

Nina is more popular than it used to be but outside the top 100.
Anya is about the same, but Anaya and Anja are similar
Lara is just outside the top 100

Bluemamma · 19/01/2022 13:47

Love Lara! And Anya is lovely too.
Not a fan of Nina but it’s ok

DotDotDotDotDot · 19/01/2022 14:26

I love your shortlist, I don’t think you can go too wrong whichever of those you choose.
Saying that If I have to be overly critical some people pronounce Anya as Ann-ya and some ahn-ya. I’m actually not sure which is correct but it might be annoying for you? Lara is also nice but I wouldn’t want people to mistake it for Laura which has a completely different 80’s vibe to me.
So I’d choose Nina, it has an international, sophisticated feel but is also short and sweet. Good luck.

helpmum2003 · 19/01/2022 14:29

Nina

Mumofgirls2017 · 19/01/2022 15:24

I like the order they’re in- Nina, then Anya then Lara. All nice though.

Kanaloa · 19/01/2022 15:25

I love Lara, I think it’s so pretty. Nina and Anya are okay too. All niceish names!

irishfarmer · 19/01/2022 15:48

Anya is my favourite. I'm not mad about Lara, it's ok, I really like Lyra from the His Darkest Materials books, Ed Sheeran called his DD that

AuntieStella · 19/01/2022 15:55

Lara is my favourite with Anya as runner up

LavenderRosemary · 19/01/2022 15:57

My favourite is definitely Nina. Lovely name. I like Anya too but Lara is my least favourite.

hariborabbit · 19/01/2022 16:00

I like them all, Lara is my favourite though.

Justkeeppedaling · 19/01/2022 16:02

Nina - love it, prefer Nia
Anya - not keen, love Anna
Lara - prefer Cara, Tara or Sara

PattyPan · 19/01/2022 16:07

I would rank them Anya, Nina, Lara.
Lara is rather ugly to me somehow. Nina is ok but a bit nothingy. Anya is lovely.

TempsPerdu · 19/01/2022 16:11

They’re all stylistically quite similar - short, tailored, vaguely international.

My favourite is Anya. Lara is pretty but will be lost among all the other similar sounding names (Lyra, Lila, Layla, Lily, Clara et al).

I’ve never been able to warm to Nina because of the singsongy/siren thing.

Stormbraver99 · 19/01/2022 16:39

I like them all. Anya is probably my favourite.

I don't think you need to worry about Nina with the sirens, as they haven't made that noise for years! Not that I've heard anyway.

BlueFlavour · 19/01/2022 19:28

Nina definitely. Like a pp I much prefer Anna to
Anya. I do like Lara though.

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/01/2022 22:24

I like Lara the best - cluster of popular sound similar (Lyra, Lola, Leila, Lena, Leah)

So I’d go for Anya

Nina I think is very nothing-y, it’s a pet form of Anne, and sounds like it.
