Harold Shipman’s wife was called Primrose.

ConstantCougher · 19/01/2022 10:12

Absolutely love it! Prim for short.

SlyAvocado · 19/01/2022 10:13

Why though? What’s nice about being called Prim?

RagamuffinCat · 19/01/2022 10:13

I am not usually a big lover of flower names for humans, but I think Primrose is very pretty.

Flutterflybutterby · 19/01/2022 10:13

I like it too! And Prim, and Rose

RobertSmithsLipstick · 19/01/2022 10:14

I really don't like it.
It sounds so twee, though it's obviously just my own opinion, not based on anything.
I think Prim is awful, too. Sorry!

boolabingbo · 19/01/2022 10:16

My friend has a primrose, sometimes called Rosie, I was suprised just the prim but I wasn't keen but Rose seems popular.

boolabingbo · 19/01/2022 10:17

Uuhhhh I meant I don't so much like the prim part as reminds me as prim and proper, and seems conservative but she's cool and I think it's a quite alternative name really.

hevann · 19/01/2022 10:17

I was thinking of Primrose for a middle name. We think it is a really pretty name.

Floralnomad · 19/01/2022 10:20

There are much nicer names out there .

thunderandsunshine01 · 19/01/2022 10:23

I actually really dislike the name rose but love primrose, with prim for short. It’s a lovely name but it will definitely split a crowd, you either love or hate it!

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 19/01/2022 10:24

The tweest of the twee

TheRealMummyPig · 19/01/2022 10:27

Love it - it's my daughter's middle name. Apparently it's sometimes shortened to Posy as a nickname

toastofthetown · 19/01/2022 10:31

I really like Primrose. It also has the very standard Rose and Rosie if she doesn’t like the full name. Mumsnet in general are very negative about and act like it would ruin her life, but the name is soaring in popularity. It’s in the top 200 at the moment and is still rising incredibly sharply. I think a combination of nature names being a major trend and The Hunger Games putting the name back into the public consciousness has made the name more accessible so I’d be aware it’s a very trendy name. For a lot of people having children now, the flower/Hunger Games association is stronger than the Shipman one (and the Shipman association wouldn’t put me off).

@SlyAvocado

Harold Shipman’s wife was called Primrose.
But she wasn't a killer was she?
onedayoranother · 19/01/2022 10:32

I like it but... I fear it brings up an image of a quiet compliant child.

PattyPan · 19/01/2022 10:34

Sounds like a cartoon cow. And Prim is awful.

DramaAlpaca · 19/01/2022 10:44

It's horrible.

Sorry, but you did ask.

TheGratefulBread · 19/01/2022 10:55

I think it's fine as a middle name, to balance out a popular first name, but I'm not keen as a first name.

Buddhabowl · 20/01/2022 13:31

I love it but not sure I'd have the guts to use it. I like the nickname Prim or Posy.
Good to see it's rising in popularity, possibly makes it more useable!

UserBot999 · 20/01/2022 13:32

Awful. Prim is terrible

Pegasussnail · 20/01/2022 13:33

Reminds me of the Darling Buds of May.
It's pretty

RosieRoww · 20/01/2022 13:34

I like it.

Graceyland · 20/01/2022 13:40

I’m surprised that this name is so polarizing! Again I’m not a big fan of flower names in general but I think Primrose is really pretty. Very feminine sounding if that’s what you’re looking for.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 20/01/2022 13:43

@SlyAvocado

Harold Shipman’s wife was called Primrose.
I have no idea why it has ticked me so much that this was someone’s first response to the name!

It’s fine, a friend has one, it doesn’t particularly suit her. I like Prim and don’t immediately make the link with prim and proper
