Austin is ok
Milo is a dog
Leander just no
Evander also no

Beatrix is ok
Zinnia sounds made up
Mina is awful

SunshineOnKeith · 15/01/2022 19:55

The only Leander I know is a girl.
Evander is awful
The others are passable

RunningFromInsanity · 15/01/2022 19:56

Austin - yes
Milo - Mylo was my top boys name
Leander - No
Evander - Worse

Beatrix - Nice
Zinnia - No
Mina - Ok

toastofthetown · 15/01/2022 19:57

Austin - not a fan
Milo - super trendy. Two syllable names ending in O are a massive trend at the moment. This is the about the fourth Milo post I've commented on in the last couple of weeks
Leander - it's quite nice, prefer Evander
Evander - love Evander. I think Van is an adorable diminutive too. People always talk about the boxer, but I loved the name before I heard of him and it wouldn't put me off

Beatrix - I like it
Zinnia - while I don't love it, I see the appeal and thinks it's really refreshing
Mina - not a fan, I have a non-rhotic accent so sounds like meaner. Nina is better to me

user1493494961 · 15/01/2022 19:59

Beatrix, Milo and Austin are OK, the rest are awful.

happystory · 15/01/2022 20:00

Sorry, I may be an old gimmer but the only one I like is Beatrix

scramboeggster · 15/01/2022 20:03

Austin - feels quite American and trendy / likely to feel 'of its time' quite quickly

Milo - love it but ++ common around here so wouldn't personally use it

Leander / Evander sound like twins who are employed to teach Defence Against the Dark Arts.

Beatrix - again love it, but is it trying too hard?

Zinnia - medication for energetic children over- enthusiastically diagnosed with an attention disorder.

Mina - meeena? Myna?

nurserysearch111111 · 15/01/2022 20:04

Austin too American for my taste
Milo that weird purple character
Leander trying too hard
Evander same as Leander

Beatrix prefer Beatrice
Zinnia fine, not great
Mina nice as nn for Marina

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/01/2022 20:04

Austin - car, dog or man in 1960s. I like it though.
Milo - nice, popular. Miles is nice and used less
Leander - it’s ok, he’ll end up being called Lee. If I heard it and hadn’t heard of it I’d assume it was a girl’s name. prefer Lysander
Evander, it’s ok, similarly I might assume it was a girls name if I just heard it.

Beatrix - nice enough. Will get misspelled as Beatrice, which will be annoying for her
Zinnia - a kitchen appliance / or her parents own a yurt. It’s not terrible but it’s not great.
Mina - insubstantial and undistinguished, ok as a short form for Marina or Marianne

EmmaC78 · 15/01/2022 20:05

I like Milo and Beatrix but don't like the rest.

PPCD · 15/01/2022 20:07

Austin - love it
Milo - like it but it's quite popular
Leander - love it
Evander - not keen, makes me think of the boxer

Beatrix - love it
Zinnia - not keen
Mina - like it

Pamlar · 15/01/2022 20:08

Love Beatrix

BiscuitLover3678 · 15/01/2022 20:10

Thank you for those who’ve told me what it makes you think of - so helpful!

BlueFlavour · 15/01/2022 20:13

I really like Milo, Zinnia (it’s a flower) and Beatrix.

SeanChailleach · 15/01/2022 20:20

Austin - Saint Augustine
Milo - nn for Miles
Leander - a rose
Evander - evasive

Beatrix - Potter
Zinnia - pretty flower, zingy
Mina - classic name, a lovely woman who taught me for a few years at school

NoddingTulip · 15/01/2022 20:23

Austin - not a fan, but its okay
Milo - okay, but prefer Miles
Leander - really dislike
Evander - really dislike, but like Evan

Beatrix - really like
Zinnia - sounds quite hippy, but quite like it
Mina - awful, probably not helped by having known one who was really unpleasant and just like her name was really mean-ah!(made dd1s 1st year of secondary hell).

Justkeeppedaling · 15/01/2022 20:25

Austin ok
Milo ok, but names ending in o are all the rage atm
Leander - bit fancy
Evander - absolutely not

Beatrix - ok but I prefer Beatrice
Zinnia - not sure. Is it a flower?
Mina - no, though ok for a nn for other names.

AdaColeman · 15/01/2022 20:36

Austin Milo Leander and Beatrix (I prefer Beatrice) are alright.

Not at all keen on any of the others, particularly Evander.

StopStartStop · 15/01/2022 20:44

Austin - ok at a pinch. If you must.
Milo - No, never.
Leander - about 10% ok, sounds like something you'd put on vegetables with a bit of olive oil.
Evander - beautiful. It's a good name and I knew a nice Evander.

Beatrix - oh dear. Ice. Beatrice. Or not at all.
Zinnia - No thank you. Cherith.
Mina - You could, but why?

Are you in the UK?

AgathaX · 15/01/2022 20:47

I only like Beatrix out of those.

Spilltheteaplease · 15/01/2022 20:49

I love Milo, not keen on the others.

I much prefer Beatrice to Beatrix, it's softer sounding.

Beamur · 15/01/2022 20:52

Austin - Powers. But it's a grower
Milo - I like this name a lot. Cool vibe.
Leander - I know one male Leander. Shakespearean name? Not sure I'd want Lee as a NN though. I like it but don't love it.
Evander - unusual, bit edgy maybe?

Beatrix - love this and Beatrice spelling too.
Zinnia - so few names start with Z! Flower name that's quite refreshing and little used.
Mina - despite the Dracula connection this is a great name. Cute and fresh.

glitterfarts · 15/01/2022 21:00

Austin - quite nice
Milo - dog
Leander - hideous
Evander - boxer. not nice

Beatrix - like it
Zinnia - sounds like a cutsie made up name for a vagina
Mina - as above. Or miner? Mila is nicer.

RavenclawsRoar · 15/01/2022 21:04

I love Austin and Milo! Leander and Evander sound like something from a fantasy novel or film and I don't really like either. Beatrix is ok, Mina makes me think of Dracula and Zinnia I actually quite like (is it a plant/flower?).

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 15/01/2022 21:29

Only Evander from your boys for me - classical, uncommon and a nice sound imo. Leander is unfortunately a bit similar to dated girls Leanne and Austin and Milo are just so trendy now.

I like all your girls choices - torn between which I like the most out of lovely Mina and Zinnia but Beatrix is nice enough too.
