Boys & Girls shortlist

LFH1990 · 07/01/2022 12:53

Hi everyone, our first baby is due in a few weeks and we’re having a surprise; just after your opinions on our shortlisted names please?

Boys: James, Jack, or Henry
Girls: Autumn, Amy, or Lydia

Our surname begins with an H and is 3 syllables.

Thanks 😊

I love James and Henry, although personally I wouldn’t choose HH so that would rule out Henry for me.

Lydia is beautiful, and I’m ambivalent about both Autumn and Amy. Autumn is a bit of an outlier to the rest of your name choices.

emmathedilemma · 07/01/2022 13:01

I like them all a lot except for Autumn. Like the PP I would question H with a H surname.

freelions · 07/01/2022 13:06

Your boys names are all fine if a little boring, my choice of the 3 would be James

Autumn seems an odd choice for a Winter baby IMO, Amy is nice enough but feels a bit dated (very 80s/90s). Lydia therefore gets my vote.

ElephantOfRisk · 07/01/2022 13:07

I think the H name is longer so would be fine?

Henry Haveland or Henry Hamilton is fine. Henry Hume or Henry Hay don't work as well.

James or Henry for a boy and Lydia for a girl. Autumn is okay but both Amy and Jack are a bit overused - though I did like Jack (for John) for many years before I had children and then it became really popular.

James - love
Jack - a bit too boring and common for me at the moment
Henry - nice enough, if it sounds nice with your H surname?

Autumn - not a fan of word names
Amy - lovely name but seems a little dated these days
Lydia - quite nice

I love the name James so would go with that for a boy, but maybe consider a few more girls names! Although Amy and Lydia are perfectly nice I think, if you're set on these three x

Love James (I have one and it's a great name)

Not keen on the girls names. Ones we considered were Elizabeth, Catherine, Cerys, Eleanor and Penelope.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 07/01/2022 13:33

All lovely names. I personally prefer Aimee to Amy but still a good name however it's spelt.

James and Lydia.

flossie47 · 07/01/2022 14:04

Jack and Lydia are lovely names

PlainJane1000 · 07/01/2022 14:11

James or Henry and Lydia or Amy for me.

Mumofgirls2017 · 07/01/2022 19:58

Henry for a boy. Autumn is different to your other names but I love it- didn’t used to but met a lovely little baby called Autumn and I’m converted!

BiscuitLover3678 · 07/01/2022 20:12

James or Lydia

20viona · 07/01/2022 20:12

James and autumn

BlueFlavour · 07/01/2022 20:14

James and Autumn.

Lydia or James. Henry is nice but depends how well it goes with your H surname.

Luredbyapomegranate · 08/01/2022 19:32

James or Lydia - both lovely, not too overused and will work well with a 3 syllable surname.

Henry is grand but a bit overused, Amy is OK but a bit nothingy. Jack has been done to death for 20 years. Autumn is awful (sorry).

17caterpillars1mouse · 09/01/2022 18:00

I like all your names

If I had to order them I'd go Jack, Henry, James
And
Lydia, Amy (though I prefer spelt Aimee), Autumn

Pemba · 11/01/2022 02:38

James and Lydia - lovely. Could be characters from Jane Austen, could be modern. Timeless and classy.

WhoppingBigBackside · 11/01/2022 08:41
