What are your opinions on this name?
I would shorten to Frankie

Is it a nice name or is it masculine for a girl?

Lovely name.
Far prefer it in full and know a few who are Francesca in full and always have been.
Not too fond of Frankie or Chesca - think of both ‘why when the name is so lovely?’ A little.

Tereseta · 02/01/2022 20:14

This is my dsis name and she is Fran or Frannie. Love Francesca as a full name

FrancescaContini · 02/01/2022 20:15

It’s my favourite Wink

DarkCorner · 02/01/2022 20:18

Love Francesca but not too keen on frankie or fran. A friend has a Francesca nn chessie which is quite sweet.

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/01/2022 20:51

It’s great - Frankie is fun and often used fir girls, Francesca is a lovely elegant full name.

DramaAlpaca · 02/01/2022 21:17

I don't like it at all, though I love Frances. I dislike Frankie too, especially on a girl. I think Francesca is too fussy for me.

I think it's lovely

There was a thread on it recently that went absolutely bonkers, someone insisted that it was cultural appropriation to use it if you weren't of Italian extraction. Or some such bollocks.

That was my fault, I started that thread 🙈

I ended up using the name for my daughter, though we used both Francesca & Frankie equally. No regrets, love the name.

she likes pasta as well so I feel it’s allowed her to own the name 😜

RuthW · 04/07/2022 17:56

Not to my taste but a reasonable name

Goodluckanddontfuckitup · 04/07/2022 17:57

Love it!

MissDollyMix · 04/07/2022 18:00

I like it a lot but I know a little Francesca who is shortened to Fran - her choice much to her mother’s horror - and I agree with her mother, am not a fan of Fran!

ChagSameachDoreen · 04/07/2022 18:54

The "cesca" part of the name is gorgeous, while the "Fran" is horrible. Therefore, Chesca as a shortening is far preferable.

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/07/2022 19:50

It’s lovely. Nothing masculine about it

I quite like Frankie but there is also Chessie, Franca, Francie, Fran

bruce43mydog · 04/07/2022 19:52

Yeah, lovely name

SpaceJamtart · 04/07/2022 20:04

Francesca sounds very feminine to me, and I quite like Frankie on a girl, reminds me of the sleepover club books I read when I was younger.

I knew girls called Francesca who whent by Cissy, Chessie, Francie and Frankie

PrincessesRUs · 04/07/2022 20:13

Think it's absolutely stunning - it was my number one name (but my husband sadly vetoed it). Loathe Frankie and a nickname - I was going to use Chessie as a nickname.

KirstenBlest · 05/07/2022 08:46

Too fussy and Frankie is awful. Frances is ok

HeadlessGummyBears · 05/07/2022 10:38

@harriet465 Op, you probably have had your daughter by now seeing as the original post was in January. But seeing as the thread has been revived in the past few days, Francesca is a lovely name and Frankie is a great nickname and Cheska could be another alternative.

17caterpillars1mouse · 05/07/2022 21:30

I've always thought it is a lovely classic name. I've only met one little Francesca (she's 3)

I'm not a huge fan of Frankie, Chesca would be my choice

girlfriend44 · 05/07/2022 21:31

Yes good name.
