What do you think flows best?

(If you don't like either, no need to comment as we are settled on these two and just wondering what order they're nicest Smile )

I think it depends on your surname. If it's long then Mercy first, if it's short then Evangeline.

@pompomsgalore

Evangeline Mercy is my favourite, r ally beautiful.

Mercy Evangeline sound alike something you'd shout out when you stub your toe and don't want to swear.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Sorry OP, they are both absolutely beautiful names (and I used one of them myself for a middle name for one of my DC) - but @pompomsgalore is absolutely bang on!

Evangeline Mercy gets my vote 👍🏻

Mercy Evangeline. I love mercy, Evangeline not so much but this way flows much better.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 01/01/2022 14:43

Evangeline Mercy.

That doesn’t mean you have to use Evangeline as her given name, though - plenty of people are known by their second name. Mercy might be easier in daily life as it likely won’t be shortened.

Evangeline could become Eva (pronounced eeva), Angeline, Angel, Lina, Ange, any number of diminutives. Most of which are quite pretty so that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Evangeline Mercy, lovely names.

Love Lina or Lini for nicknames.

Sugaris · 01/01/2022 18:05

Evangeline Mercy, definitely. A magnificent Sunday name.

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/01/2022 19:02

Evangeline first, for sure

BunnyRuddington · 03/01/2022 09:37

Mercy Evangeline. It's lovely and she won't be Evie which seemed to be a compulsory name here for a few years.

FlamingoDust · 03/01/2022 14:43

Mercy Evangeline for me although both ways round are lovely!

JamieFrasersBigSwingingKilt · 03/01/2022 15:27

Depends on which flies best with your surname. How many syllables does it have?

WyncyG · 03/01/2022 15:38

Evangeline is glorious, so I'd use that as first name. If you prefer Mercy then vice versa :)

Eva/Evie available as obvious nicknames but if you prefer the long version just correct anyone who shortens it. I know plenty of Victorias and Elizabeths etc who aren't shortened. I can't see such an obvious or sweet shortening for Mercy.

Marimaur · 03/01/2022 17:45

Mercy Evangeline

Lennon80 · 03/01/2022 17:47

I go for Mercy as the actual name - shorter names aren’t going to be shortened and easier to remember. Mercy is cool 😎

Flutterflybutterby · 04/01/2022 14:33

Thank you everyone! Surname is 3 syllables, if that makes a difference!

For Evangeline, I like the nicknames Eva and Lina. But I also adore Mercy and prefer it to Evangeline's nicknames... i think!

I have an Evangeline. And for the exact reason that there are 10 a penny Evie and Eva's, is why I have an Evangeline. I don't mind her having a common nickname, as she has an uncommon "proper" name of Evangeline that she always has the option of using.

And everyone that's heard it (she's one of twins, so random people come up and ask about them a lot) always say "gosh that's a beautiful name."

Ours also has a different middle name, not too dissimilar to the one you've chosen. And honestly, you'd probably dislike it, because it's not to everyone's taste. And that's my opinion of Mercy. So, do the "everyone loves it" of Evangeline first, and the "we love it" of Mercy, second.
