We decided on river for our daughter, partner asked for opinion from family member without telling her we have decided on it and she didn’t like it, still have decided on the name river thus far, but really annoyed she said she didn’t like it, would this bother you? And also these were the middle names we were thinking but don’t know which one sounds best:
River Rose
River Remi
River Rae
Just not sure which we like best or if anyone could recommend any other nice middle names with the initial “R” Also open to names without that initial but really like the double r

It's a bit harsh to be annoyed with her when she was asked her opinion without being told it was already decided upon.

Everyone will have their own opinion. Personally, I like the R R as it makes me think of subtle tribute to JRR Tolkien, and I quite like River (the name of a cool character in a sci-fi show), but I don't really like the middle names you've mentioned. You'll probably get a lot of different opinions from different people.

Ultimately, go with what you and your partner think best suits your baby and what you both like best. Nobody else's opinion really matters. Unless you're going for something truly horrendously inappropriate, like the name of a horrible disease or an internationally reviled war criminal. Which doesn't seem to be the case here.

What a bitch she is. You asked her "do you like this name?" without any context and she had the audacity to have an opinion of her own and tell you it when asked. How dare she. Go NC.

Back in the real world, you don't need people to like your name. Pick one you like. It runs the risk of sounding like a place - meet me at the River Rae but how often will you use just the two names.

its Been months later and I can’t thank the people enough for their kind responses, and for the rest of the people who said they didn’t like the name even tho in my post said we had chose it, i think you’s are quite rude tbh, and how dare I be human and have feelings and be abit upset that a family member didn’t like the name that I loved? I’m sure you’s have all been abit annoyed over something in your time, and im sure yous wouldn’t have wanted those kind of responses when you expressed your feelings, I wasn’t the one who wanted an opinion from her it was my partner who asked so yeah I was abit annoyed over the situation all in all mainly at him as I told him I didn’t want anyones opinions as I personally loved the name, I really don’t understand why people even bother writing sarcastic replies or generally just being as unhelpful as anything 🙄 and for the person saying the name sounds “stripper esque” who the hell looks at a little girl and would think that? Quite strange really? but for the people with helpful/kind replies I thank yous sincerely! Also if you thought about how a child would pronounce their name you might aswell give up and not even bother naming them if that’s the case they could mispronounce all names@Crispynoodle @Ikeameatballs @DoodleBelle @IamnotwhouthinkIam @whysoserious123 @Mumofgirls2017 @EgbertNoBac0n

River Rae sounds like a stripper.

PoleFairy · 23/06/2022 16:11

I like River Wren. Gives the R sound but with a different twist?

Rose is a bit overused as a middle name (all the girls I know born recently have the middle name Rose or Grace). How about

River Romilly
River Roma
River Rosa

stormelf · 23/06/2022 16:22

I like the name River for a boy or a girl. I agree with pp that as it is a unisex name I would go with a more feminine middle name. I'm not keep on River Rose combination but Rose isn't really a middle name I would choose as it's very popular now (this is coming from someone with an obvious 80s filler middle name). I like River Rachel or River Rebecca bit ultimately I think it depends on surname as that's really the only time you ever say the middle name, or it is when I'm referring toy kids.

No, don't let it bother you. I get the feeling our baby's name is not what our families would have chosen but DH and I loved it. I have had a wobble about the name since we named him (he's 5 months) but mainly due to worries about its origin, still love the name and the way it sounds. Because of this I mentioned to MIL another name I liked and pondering whether I'd prefer that and she said she hated it. It still hadn't put me off that name if I ever had a second son though (it's a name that is very popular on MN at the minute!)

BE22 · 23/06/2022 17:42

Oh just seen the update😆

Namesnamesname · 24/06/2022 15:06

All awful names chosen by a mother having a tantrum that people don’t agree with her and love her name choices. Oh dear!
