Already have 2 girls between myself and my partner that end in a 'lee' sound, so would need to be pronounced Cora-lye. What's your opinion on it?

Cor-a-lee

I love it

FeedMeSantiago · 30/12/2021 20:01

The Coralie I know pronounces it as Corra-lee and I think most people would use that pronunciation.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 31/12/2021 01:37

I think you would be fighting a losing battle trying to get "Cora - lye" - most people will assume that all the French girls names ending in "lie" should be said with a "lee" sound because Julie, Rosalie, Amelie etc are very well known/used, even if Coralie itself is rarer here.

Coraline is pretty though as pp suggest- a cute literary invention that hasn't become as trendy as Lyra has (although she still may have to put up with the odd "Caroline?").

Haus1234 · 31/12/2021 03:33

It’s not how the name is pronounced so this is a bad idea. It’s fine if it rhymes with your other children, but if you’re insistent it mustn’t then choose a different name!

ShippingNews · 31/12/2021 04:33

If your other children end in "ee" you need to find another name. You can' just pick a name that also ends in "ee" and insist that it isn't pronounced that way. Find something else .

MerryChristmasToYou · 31/12/2021 09:35

Corally

mewe3 · 31/12/2021 09:43

Coralei would be better for correct pronunciation

ThirdElephant · 31/12/2021 09:47

Coraline is your best bet. Tbh though, if both other girls have Lee ending names, you may as well complete the set and go for Cora-lee.

Daisydoor12 · 31/12/2021 10:24

Against the grain but I read it as Cora-lye but can understand why most don’t. Think it’s a lovely name and if I wanted it and concerned about mispronunciation I would just spell it Coralye

givemepiece · 31/12/2021 11:41

Coralei would be better for correct pronunciation

Ooh yes

Coralei
Corelei
Coralye

Would work for the pronunciation as long as you don't mind a completely made up name much like your preferred pronunciation

EekGoesTheBaby · 31/12/2021 12:06

I really like your pronunciation, but I think PP are right that you would forever be correcting people. Maybe "Coralai" or just "Cora"? If you like the sound of "Cora-lee" I don't think it's a big problem. In her adult life, few people would even know the names of her siblings.

MerryChristmasToYou · 31/12/2021 12:36

It won't be Cora-Lee or Cora-lye. It will be Coral-ee

CovidPassQuestion · 31/12/2021 12:45

I would say Corra- Lee

That said, I have only ever read "Coraline" and pronounced it corra-leen in my head.

Coralie is a lovely name though, don't be put off using it, I think it's very underused.

dustandfluf · 31/12/2021 12:56

It's a French name so pronounced Coral-ee. Perhaps Coraline would be better for you. Or Cora. Equally as pretty.

Edenember · 31/12/2021 13:18

I’d just choose something else that definitely doesn’t have the -lee ending you’re wanting to avoid.

user1493494961 · 01/01/2022 11:05

I'd choose Cora.
