Using a name cousin picked out 10 years ago but didn’t use?

Is it wrong to choose a name that a cousin was going to name her boy if he was a girl ten years ago? My other cousin is pregnant and loves the name Eleanor, but won’t use it for this reason! I think she’s mad and should at least ask, but she said out of politeness our cousin would feel obliged to say it wasn’t a problem even if it was.

What do you all think? We don’t know if this cousin is planning another child by the way or ever will be again.

A name doesn’t belong to anyone, if they like the name it’s theirs to use. No sane person is going to be precious about a name they liked 10 years ago.

That's rediculous. Most people change their minds about names between children so even if she had gone on to have a girl, she might not have used it!

Only thing that would stop me is if it was a name picked for a baby in heaven.

It isn't exactly an unusual name so I'd say yes, use it.

She's mad. Also, it's a beautiful name.

My ex-husband could not name any other the names we had picked for the other sex. I think this is fairly common.
