A middle name for a girl

Hello, we have chosen the name Elodie if our baby is a girl but can’t agree on a middle name. My favourite is Elodie Brooke and my husband’s is Elodie Grey. We would have also liked to honour my Aunty who passed away this year but rather than Anne (which is also my middle name) we would have liked a variation of that but couldn’t find one we really liked. Our best are Elodie Savannah or Elodie Ana.
Other options on the list are
Elodie Reya
Elodie Wren
Elodie Imogen
Elodie Grace
Elodie Rose
Elodie Hope
Elodie Eve

Which of these do you like the sound of? Our son is Caleb Jack.

Thank you 😊

I like Elodie Wren, Elodie Eve and Elodie Grace. Not keen on Brooke or Grey, sorry.

As a bonus, the meaning of Anne is “grace”. I’d go with Elodie Grace for that reason.

How is Elodie pronounced? That would sway my middle name choice. Also, what letter does your surname start with?

emmathedilemma · 28/12/2021 22:47

@Hairyfriend like Melody without an M (or at least that's how I've always known it to be pronounced).
I think you need something that doesn't start with a vowel or it could be quite a mouthful.
Brooke and Grey are both pretty awful compared to your other options. I think Savannah and Grace work best.

Hairyfriend · 28/12/2021 22:58

@emmathedilemma- thank you for pronouncing it. For some reason, I thought it was Elle-O-Dee.

Don't forget it would be very rare to use the middle name all together. I've avoid Eve, simply because it starts with E. I love Imogen, but the Elodie and Imogen are both 3 syllables long and already a mouthful. I'd use any of the others though.

Anne is an elegant name and worth reconsidering, as it clearly means something to your family.

Elodie Annabelle
Elodie Anneliese

Sorry OP, I don't think your little one would thank you for Brooke. I know it was fashionable once, but it was never euphonious. It sounds like the noise I make when I have a throatful of snot during hayfever season.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 29/12/2021 00:41

I'd go for Elodie Anne. It's a lovely name, and unusual because Anne is not much used now. If you want your name choice to honour your aunt, don't use some other name and pretend it is honouring her.

I prefer Anne to Brooke or (especially) Grey.

KirstenBlest · 29/12/2021 08:40

It's nearer your pronunciation in French @Hairyfriend.

I don't particularly like it.

Of the middle names in OP, I only like Imogen but it doesn't flow very well. As Elodie is vowel-heavy, I'd pick a middle name with strong consonants.

Grey is awful, Brooke is much better and balances out the vowels

Luredbyapomegranate · 29/12/2021 09:03

Elodie is pretty but very off the moment, so I’d avoid anything like Brooke, Grey, Wren or Rae/Raya - it will date. I’d also avoid the overused filler middle names of Rose, Grace and Eve -

Personally I think Elodie Anne is a lovely combination and I’d go for that. It also pairs nicely with Caleb Jack.

Failing that Elodie Hope.

Elodie Imogen is just too fussy.

Luredbyapomegranate · 29/12/2021 09:04

.. I mean OF the moment!

yikesanotherbooboo · 29/12/2021 09:21

I would go with Anne.

WildCherryBlossom · 29/12/2021 11:23

Elodie Anne flows very well. I think that's the best option. I love Imogen, but as others have pointed out, it doesn't really work with Elodie.

VanillaAndOrange · 29/12/2021 19:45

I like the idea of Grace for the reasons mentioned above. You could also consider Anita which is "little Anne"!
