So underused and actually very pretty don't you think?

@ofwarren, Loyce.

I prefer the Welsh pronunciation. I now several with the name but only one says it the English way

namechangeagain32 · 27/12/2021 10:42

@KirstenBlest that's a much more efficient way of describing it than I did 😂 amazed anyone prefers the Welsh way though, I think it's such an ugly sound!

Philandbill · 27/12/2021 10:45

I would have happily used it for DD but DH was put off by the Superman association and that the character of Lois Trotter in "The Rotter's Club" is so terribly sad. But all names have associations...

Love it. I used to think Lois Lane from superman was the most beautiful lovely woman when I was growing up 😁 she was my 90s idol ha ha xo

NeedToKnow101 · 27/12/2021 10:48

Love it!

GuyFawkesDay · 27/12/2021 10:51

It's not a Welsh name, it's a biblical one! The Welsh pronounce it Loyce, which I can't stand tbh. Much prefer it as Low-iss.

My Lois is 8, and she really suits it. It's strong, and not overly girly but still feminine. I don't like the girly girly names.

Blogdog · 27/12/2021 10:52

Not a fan - all I can think of are the mothers in Malcolm in the Middle and Family Guy, sorry.

namechangeagain32 · 27/12/2021 10:55

@GuyFawkesDay I don't think anyone has said it's Welsh just that there is a Welsh pronunciation.

I don't think anyone said it was Welsh, @GuyFawkesDay, but it is popular in Wales, and welsh speakers use the welsh pronunciation.

Some of the biblical names can be pronounced phonetically so sound different when said by a Welsh speaker Examples would be Elias (El-ee-as), Jacob (Jack-ob), Deborah (Deb-O-ra), Eli (Elly), Jonah (Jonn-a), and so on

cobblers123 · 27/12/2021 15:22

Really like this name and I hardly ever like any of the names on here that are suggestions for new baby. Smile

PlainJane1000 · 27/12/2021 17:10

I really like it and had it on my list but my dh isn't a fan, saying its too close to Louis (the Lewis pronunciation).

DukkaTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 27/12/2021 17:42

Sorry no, I really dislike it.

Edenember · 29/12/2021 17:04

I like it. I find it so nerdy it’s cool again, if you know what I mean.

danascully96 · 30/12/2021 03:19

Lois sounds like a mousy secretary in Mad Men. I’m unfortunately not a fan.

Justkeeppedaling · 30/12/2021 03:46

Low-iss or Loyce?

I'm not sure I like either much tbh

RedHot22 · 30/12/2021 03:55

Beautiful name

Changethetoner · 30/12/2021 03:56

I like Lois. But I especially like Eloise. (from The Damned song in the 1980s).

KirstenBlest · 30/12/2021 08:21

I don't like Eloise, It seems difficult to say. and some people try to write it as Elouise

The Damned song was a cover version

Stormwhale · 30/12/2021 08:24

It just reminds me too much of superman and family guy. I think if it didn't, I would probably like it, but its a no for me.
